FSC Falls at Merchant Marine in Season Finale

Merchant Marine - 12, Farmingdale State - 3


Kings Point, N.Y. - The FSC baseball team traveled to play the United States Merchant Marine Academy in their final game of the season and fell, 12-3. The Rams have finished 11-11 overall and 10-8 in conference play.

Farmingdale State opened the scoring in the top of the first after freshman left fielder Daniel Molina (East Meadow, N.Y.) led off with a single and moved to second on a base hit by freshman third baseman Nolan White (Miller Place, N.Y.). The next batter was freshman first baseman Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) and he hit an RBI single to score Molina and put the Rams in front, 1-0.

The Mariners (13-3, 12-3 Skyline) answered with two runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to take a 2-1 advantage.

FSC trailed 3-1 in the fourth and used a solo homerun from junior designated hitter Ryan DePalma (Albertson, N.Y.) to close within one at 3-2.

Merchant Marine tallied one run in the fourth and four in the fifth to take a commanding 8-2 lead.

The final run for the Rams came in the top of the sixth as DePalma hit a double and scored on a single from freshman shortstop Philip Gerard (Patchogue, N.Y.).

USMMA added three runs in the seventh and one in eighth as they went on for the 12-3 victory.

DePalma led the way for Farmingdale State with three hits, a homerun, double and two runs scored. Gerard was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while White had two hits and a walk. Molina, Lambert and freshman Louis Annunziata (Howard Beach, N.Y.) had one hit apiece in the loss.

Senior catcher Jack McCann (Newark, Del.) recorded three hits, three runs batted in and four runs scored for the Mariners.
