Game 2: Farmingdale State - 8, Purchase - 7 (F/10)

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The FSC baseball team hosted Purchase College this afternoon for a Skyline Conference doubleheader and won both games. Farmingdale State junior pitcher Stephen Clancy (Mineola, N.Y.) (W, 2-0, 1 H, 5 K) started and threw five shutout innings in the 7-1 game one win before freshman first baseman Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) hit a walkoff sacrifice fly in the tenth inning of game two to lead the Rams to the 8-7 victory.

After Clancy tossed a 1-2-3 first inning with a pair of strikeouts, FSC (5-1, 5-0 Skyline) loaded the bases with two outs for Lambert who lined a bases-clearing double into right-center field to give the Rams an early 3-0 advantage.

Farmingdale State added a run in the bottom of the second as freshman third baseman Nolan White (Miller Place, N.Y.) led off with a walk and scored on an RBI single from freshman catcher Aidan Hutchins (Wading River, N.Y.) to put Farmingdale State in front, 4-0.

In the bottom of the third the Rams scored three runs to go up 7-0. Sophomore right fielder Bobby Pollock (Manorville, N.Y.) hit a leadoff double and reached third on an error before junior designated hitter Ryan DePalma (Albertson, N.Y.) walked. The next batter, Lambert, hit a sacrifice fly to put Farmingdale State ahead by five. After a single by White, freshman shortstop Thomas Secaira (Bay Shore, N.Y.) hit a two-run double down the right field line to give the Rams the 7-0 advantage.

Farmingdale State took a six-run lead into the top of the seventh as sophomore Thomas Messina (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) entered and set down the Panthers (4-6, 2-6 Skyline) to clinch FSC's 7-1 victory.

Lambert led the way for the Rams as he was 1-for-1 with a double, walk and four runs batted in. Hutchins had a hit, two walks, an RBI and one run scored, Secaira recorded a hit with two runs batted in, and both Depalma and White tallied two runs scored apiece. All nine FSC batters reached base safely in the game.

In game two, Farmingdale State jumped out to a 2-0 advantage after senior center fielder Vincent Napolitano (Bellmore, N.Y.) hit a two-run homerun over the left field wall in the bottom of the first inning.

Purchase answered with a four-run top of the second, aided by a trio of Farmingdale State errors, to take a 4-2 advantage.

In the bottom of the second, Secaira hit a one-out single and was driven in on a triple by White to cut the FSC deficit to just one at 4-3.

The Rams took the lead in the bottom of the fifth after Pollock hit a game-tying, solo homerun and Secaira registered an RBI single to go out in front, 5-4. The Rams added an unearned run later in the inning to take a 6-4 advantage.

Farmingdale State increased their lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning as Napolitano drew a walk with two outs and was driven in on a triple from Pollock.

Purchase trailed 7-5 heading into the top of the ninth inning and used a pair of RBI singles from senior right fielder Matthew Nilsen (Bellmore, N.Y.) and junior designated hitter Jemal Betances (Bronx, N.Y.) to knot the game at 7-7.

The Rams were held scoreless in the bottom of the ninth as the game went into extra innings.

After freshman pitcher Tyler Loft (Nesconset, N.Y.) (W, 1-0) threw a 1-2-3 top of the tenth, Hutchins led off the bottom of the inning with a double to right center. Two batters later, Napolitano reached on an error before Pollock was intentionally walked. The next batter was Lambert, who hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Hutchins and secure the Rams 8-7 victory.

Pollock finished just a single away from the cycle as he recorded a double, triple and homerun with two RBI's. Secaira had three hits and two runs scored, while Napolitano tallied a homerun with two runs batted in and two runs scored.

Tomorrow's scheduled doubleheader at Purchase has been postponed due to inclement weather and will now be played on Monday.
