Game 2: Purchase - 8, Farmingdale State - 3 (Non-Conference Game)

Purchase, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team improved to 6-0 in Skyline Conference play with a 4-3 game one win at Purchase this afternoon. The Rams dropped the non-conference game, 8-3, to the Panthers (5-7, 2-7 Skyline) in their second contest of the day.

FSC used a four-run first inning in game one en route to the 4-3 victory. Farmingdale State loaded the bases with one out on a pair of singles from freshman catcher Aidan Hutchins (Wading River, N.Y.) and senior center fielder Vincent Napolitano (Bellmore, N.Y.) and a walk from sophomore right fielder Bobby Pollock (Manorville, N.Y.). The next batter, freshman pitcher Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) hit a two-run single up the middle to put the Rams ahead, 2-0. Freshman left fielder Chris Driscoll (Seaford, N.Y.) followed with a two RBI double to left center to give FSC a 4-0 advantage.

Purchase broke through in the bottom of the third inning as junior shortstop James Shea (Brooklyn, N.Y.) singled, stole second base and scored on a base hit by senior second baseman Dylan Flynn (Smithtown, N.Y.). The Panthers tallied an unearned run later in the inning to cut their deficit to 4-2.

In the sixth inning, Purchase led off with back-to-back singles before scoring on a sacrifice bunt to close within one at 4-3.

After the Rams were set down in order in the top of the seventh, the Panthers loaded the bases with no one out in the bottom of the inning. Senior pitcher Joe Marino (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) entered and recorded three straight flyouts to escape the jam.

Marino allowed just two baserunners over the final two innings to pick up the save and secure FSC's 4-3 victory.

Lambert tossed 4.1 innings on the mound and recorded a hit and two RBI's at the plate, while Driscoll had a double, walk and two runs batted in. Hutchins went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored in the win.

In game two, the Rams took an early 1-0 lead as Pollock hit an RBI single in the top of the first. Purchase quickly responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to go in front, 2-1.

The Panthers extended their lead to 5-1 in the second inning on a run-scoring double by junior third baseman James May (Floral Park, N.Y.) and a two-run single by sophomore designated hitter Louis Carvell (New York, N.Y.).

Farmingdale State scored a run in both the third and fourth innings on RBI doubles by Thomas Secaira (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Ryan DePalma (Albertson, N.Y.) to close within two at 5-3, but were held scoreless the rest of the way as they fell, 8-3.

Pollock finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while freshman first baseman Joseph Tardino (Kings Park, N.Y.) had a hit, a walk and one run scored in the loss.

Carvell led the way for Purchase as he went 3-for-4 with five runs batted in.

The Rams next travel to play St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in a Skyline doubleheader on Saturday, April 10th at noon.
