COMPLETE ABCA/RAWLINGS RELEASE
Greensboro, N.C. - The 2019 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-Region teams and Regional Players of the Year have been announced in all eight regions. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America Committee.
Farmingdale State junior utility Steven Burke (North Babylon, N.Y.) was named First Team ABCA/Rawlings All-New York Region, while both junior outfielder Vincent Rice (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and senior pitcher Matthew Constantine (West Babylon, N.Y.) earned Second Team honors.
Burke, who pitched in 12 games as well as playing first base (13 games), outfield (8 games) and designated hitter (4 games), was 6-1 with a team-leading 1.93 earned run average in 60.2 innings pitched. He struck out 40 batters and held opponents to a .180 batting average against, a mark that led the Skyline. Burke also ranked second in the conference in wins and fourth for both ERA and innings pitched. In the NCAA, he finished seventh for WHIP (.86), 26th in hits allowed per nine innings (5.93) and 42nd in earned run average. At the plate, Burke hit .316 with 30 hits, 16 runs batted in and 18 runs scored.
Rice led the team in batting average (.394), at-bats (127), runs (35), hits (50), doubles (11), triples (5), homeruns (5), total bases (86), slugging percentage (.677), on-base percentage (.487) and stolen bases (16-of-18) and was second in RBI's (26) and walks (17). He led the Skyline and finished 42nd in the Nation for slugging percentage. Rice also broke the school record for total bases in one season, besting the previous record of 77, and tied the homerun record with five.
Constantine appeared in a team-high 18 games and led FSC in wins (7), starts (9), saves (2), innings pitched (71.2) and strikeouts (51) and ranked second in ERA (2.51) and batting average against (.241). He led the conference in wins and innings pitched, ranked fourth for saves and fifth in both ERA and strikeouts.
