Farmingdale, N.Y. - The 2019 D3baseball.com All-Region teams were announced on Thursday, May 23rd. The 2019 season marks the eighth year that D3baseball.com has named All-Region teams, with more than 800 players nominated. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region, as well as D3baseball.com staff and contributors.
Farmingdale State junior right fielder Vincent Rice (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) was named Second Team All-New York Region, while both sophomore designated hitter Ryan DePalma (Albertson, N.Y.) and junior utility Steven Burke (North Babylon, N.Y.) earned Third Team All-New York Region honors.
Rice, who was tabbed the Skyline Conference Player of the Year, led the team in batting average (.394), at-bats (127), runs (35), hits (50), doubles (11), triples (5), homeruns (5), total bases (86), slugging percentage (.677), on-base percentage (.487), walks (17) and stolen bases (16-of-18) and was second in RBI's (26). He led the Skyline and finished 44th in the NCAA for slugging percentage, a mark that ranks second all-time at FSC. Rice also broke the school record for total bases in one season, besting the previous record of 77, and tied the homerun record with five.
DePalma ranked second on FSC in batting average (.390), slugging percentage (.585), on-base percentage (.458) and doubles (10) and was fourth in hits (32), RBI's (22), total bases (48) and homeruns (2). In the Skyline, DePalma ranked third in slugging percentage and fourth for batting average.
Burke spent time on the mound (12 games), as well as playing first base (13 games), outfield (8 games) and designated hitter (4 games) this season. On the mound, Burke was 6-1 with a team-leading 1.93 earned run average in 60.2 innings pitched. He struck out 40 batters and held opponents to a .180 batting average against. Burke led the Skyline in opposing batting average, ranked second in wins, and fourth for both ERA and innings pitched. In the NCAA, Burke ranked sixth for WHIP (.86), 24th in hits allowed per nine innings (5.93) and 45th in earned run average. At the plate, Burke hit .316 in 95 at-bats with 16 runs batted in.
