Game 2: Farmingdale State - 13, Old Westbury - 2

Farmingdale, N.Y. -  The Farmingdale State baseball team swept Old Westbury in a Skyline Conference doubleheader this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. The games were played at FSC due to unplayable field conditions at OW. The Rams earned a 3-2 win in the first game before picking up a 13-2 victory in game two.

FSC (22-6, 11-1 Skyline) opened the scoring in the second inning of game one after junior right fielder Vincent Rice (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch, stole second base and was driven in on an RBI single by junior left fielder Vincent Napolitano (Bellmore, N.Y.).

The Rams added another run in the fourth as Rice hit a single and moved to second on a failed pick off error by the catcher. After Rice reached third on a sacrifice bunt by junior first baseman Morgan McCarthy (Oceanside, N.Y.), Napolitano registered a sacrifice fly to put Farmingdale State up, 2-0.

Rams' senior pitcher Matthew Constantine (West Babylon, N.Y.) kept the Panthers (14-12-1, 9-5 Skyline) off the board until the bottom of the sixth inning when OW tied the game up with back-to-back RBI doubles by senior first baseman John Condon (Oceanside, N.Y.) and sophomore designated hitter Peter Capel (Hicksville, N.Y.).

With one out in the top of the eighth inning, Rice hit a single and quickly advanced to second on a passed ball. The next batter, sophomore catcher Michael Amandola (North Babylon, N.Y.) tallied an RBI single to right center field to bring home Rice and allow FSC to take a 3-2 advantage.

Over the final two innings, Rams' junior pitcher Anthony Visconte (East Islip, N.Y.) (W, 3-2) did not allow a hit as he secured the 3-2 victory for FSC.

Rice led the way for Farmingdale State with two hits and three runs scored, while senior third baseman Jason Conti (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 with a double. Napolitano went 1-for-3 with two runs batted in, while Amandola recorded a hit, one walk and the game-winning run batted in.

For Old Westbury, Condon tallied three hits, a double and one RBI, while junior second baseman Brandon Wilson (Stony Brook, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

In the top of the second inning of game two, Farmingdale State recorded four straight two-out base hits. Napolitano registered a single through the left side before sophomore right fielder Cam Alfano (Yaphank, N.Y.) singled through the right side. Senior shortstop Shawn Blasberg (Sound Beach, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single to set up first and third. After Blasberg stole second base, junior Tyler Schrimpf (Miller Place, N.Y.) tallied a two-run single to give the Rams a 3-0 edge. FSC added a run after Schrimpf stole third base and scored on a throwing error by the Panthers.

The Rams extended their lead to 6-0 with a run in both the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, Alfano brought home Napolitano on a sacrifice bunt and in the fifth McCarthy used a sacrifice fly to drive in senior third baseman Brandon O'Neill (North Babylon, N.Y.).

FSC led 6-1 and scored seven runs in the top of the seventh to take a 13-1 advantage.

Old Westbury would tally a single run in the bottom of the inning as Farmingdale State went on for the 13-2 victory.

Napolitano recorded a pair of hits and two runs scored in game two, while Blasberg went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, a run batted in and one run scored. Freshman Patrick Leach (Rockville Center, N.Y.) tallied two hits and an RBI off the bench and Alfano, McCarthy and Conti each were 1-for-2 with an RBI and one run scored.

Junior pitcher Steven Burke (North Babylon, N.Y.) (W, 3-0) earned the win after throwing 6.1 innings, allowing just four hits and one run, and striking out four.
