#11 TCNJ - 10, Farmingdale State - 1
Ewing, N.J. - The Farmingdale State baseball team had their 13-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday when they traveled to 11th-ranked TCNJ and fell, 10-1.
The Lions (18-3) led 1-0 in the third and extended the advantage to two on a two-out RBI double to right center by senior first baseman Tommy McCarthy (Allentown, N.J.).
In the bottom of the fifth, TCNJ led off with a double down the left field line before a Jacob Simon (Hightstown, N.J.) RBI double put the Lions on top, 3-0. In the next two at-bats, McCarthy and sophomore designated hitter Cameron Cane (Hopewell, N.J.) each recorded RBI singles to increase the lead to 5-0. After Cane came around to score on a wild pitch, senior shortstop Danny Borup (Plainsboro, N.J.) plated two runs on a 2 RBI single to right center to put TCNJ out in front, 8-0. The Lions added a pair of unearned runs later in the inning to go ahead, 10-0.
Farmingdale State's (20-6) lone run came in the top of the ninth on a two-out RBI double to left center by sophomore designated hitter Ryan DePalma (Albertson, N.Y.) which scored Vincent Napolitano (Bellmore, N.Y.).
Six different FSC players each had one hit in the 10-1 non-conference loss.
TCNJ was led by Borup who was 4-for-5 at the plate with a double, two runs scored and 2 RBI, while McCarthy had three hits, 3 RBI and scored a run. Junior catcher David Cardona III (Elizabeth, N.Y.) finished the day 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored.
Freshman pitcher Tom Kelly (Livingston, N.Y.) (2-0) earned the win after tossing six innings, allowing three hits and striking out seven.
The Rams next will travel to Old Westbury for a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 13th at noon.
