Farmingdale State - 8, Ramapo - 3
Mahwah, N.J. - The Farmingdale State baseball team used a four-run sixth inning to open up a 5-0 lead en route to the 8-3 victory at Ramapo on Thursday afternoon.
Leading 1-0 entering the top of the sixth, FSC (10-5) junior first baseman Morgan McCarthy (Oceanside, N.Y.) hit a one-out single and moved to second when Cam Alfano (Yaphank, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch. In the next at-bat, junior second baseman Tyler Schrimpf (Miller Place, N.Y.) hit an infield single to shortstop which scored McCarthy and put the Rams on top, 2-0. After a Nick Attardi (Smithtown, N.Y.) RBI sacrifice bunt, Schrimpf came around to score on a balk. Farmingdale State added a run on a bases loaded walk to extend the advantage to 5-0.
With runners on second and third and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Roadrunners (6-7) used a Philip Mahlik (Bernardsville, N.J.) RBI single through the right side to score their first run of the game. During the next at-bat, junior first baseman Matt Meola (Union, N.J.) scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 5-2.
The Rams quickly answered with two runs in the eighth on an RBI sac bunt by junior shortstop Brian Perez (Levittown, N.Y.) and a bases loaded walk to sophomore catcher Michael Amandola (North Babylon, N.Y.).
Each team added a run in the ninth as FSC earned the 8-3 non-conference road win.
