FSC Baseball Defeats Non-Conference Opponent Kean University

Farmingdale State - 5, Kean - 3


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team hosted non-conference opponent Kean University this afternoon for a single game and won, 5-3. The Rams improved to 9-5 overall, while the Cougars dropped to 13-7 on the season.

FSC jumped out to a 2-0 advantage after one inning of play. Junior right fielder Vincent Rice (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) tallied an RBI groundout before senior third baseman Jason Conti (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to put Farmingdale State ahead by two.

The Rams added a run in the third on single by Rice to score freshman designated hitter Patrick Leach (Rockville, Centre, N.Y.) to go in front, 3-0.

Trailing 4-0 in the top of the sixth, Kean tallied a pair of runs on a groundout and a wild pitch to cut their deficit to two.

The Cougars added another run in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by junior first baseman Nick Polizzano (South Plainfield, N.J.) to close within just one at 4-3. 

Leading 5-3 in the ninth, junior pitcher Nicholas Rooney (Ridge, N.Y.) forced a double play and a pop out to earn his first save of the season and secure the non-conference victory.

Conti was 2-for-2 with two runs batted in, a walk and one run scored, while Rice tallied a hit, one walk and two RBI's. Junior first baseman Steven Burke (North Babylon, N.Y.) had two hits and one run scored and Leach finished 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Senior pitcher Matthew Constantine (West Babylon, N.Y.) (2-1) tossed three innings in relief to earn his second win of the year. 

Farmingdale State next travels to play non-conference opponent Ramapo College tomorrow, Thursday, March 28th at 4:00 p.m.
