Rams Fall to William Paterson

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team hosted William Paterson University this afternoon in their final non-conference game of the season and fell, 10-3. The Rams dropped to 20-12 overall, while the Pioneers improved to 22-11 on the season.

Leading 1-0 in the top of the second, William Paterson freshman right fielder Dan Carter (Bloomfield, N.Y.) hit a one-out triple to left center and was driven in on an RBI single by senior first baseman Anthony Hoagland (Dumont, N.J.) to go ahead by two. After a walk put runners on first and second, freshman center fielder Steven DiGirolamo (Dumont, N.J.) hit a two-run triple to increase the Pioneers advantage to 4-0. The next batter, sophomore designated hitter Vin Dorio (Lyndhurst, N.J.), hit an RBI single up the middle to give William Paterson a five-run lead. 

Trailing 6-0 in the bottom of the second, FSC senior left fielder Thomas Pallatto (Oceanside, N.Y.) hit a single up the middle, stole second base and came around to score on an RBI double from junior center fielder Anthony Gigante (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to five, 6-1.

After a sacrifice fly by freshman left fielder Francis Deane (Dumont, N.Y.) extended the Pioneers advantage to 7-1 in the third, sophomore third baseman Carlos Perez (Hawthorne, N.J.) led off the fourth with a solo homerun before sophomore second baseman Matt Ferrara (Paramus, N.J.) hit a double and later scored on a wild pitch to put William Paterson up 9-1.

FSC tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the Pioneer lead to 9-3 on an RBI groundout by senior second baseman Domenic Palumbo (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) to score freshman catcher Tommy Isernia (South Huntington, N.Y.) and an RBI single by Pallatto to score freshman designated hitter Jake Jacobs (Commack, N.Y.).

The Pioneers would add the final run on a Carter solo homerun in the sixth en route to the 10-3 non-conference victory.

Pallatto finished 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored, while both Isernia and Jacobs registered a hit and a run scored.

The Pioneers were led by DiGirolamo, who ended 4-for-6 with two RBI's and two runs scored, and Carter, who went 3-for-5 with a solo homerun and two runs scored. Hoagland tallied three hits and scored twice, while Ferrara was 2-for-5 with a walk and a run scored.

William Paterson freshman Christian Smith (Union Beach, N.J.) (1-0) earned his first win of the season, pitching five innings on the mound.

Farmingdale State next travels to Mount Saint Mary College for a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 28th at noon.
