Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team earned a 10-8 win in game one and fell, 4-2, in the second game for a doubleheader split with Skyline Conference opponent Maritime this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y.

In between games, Farmingdale State honored Brandon Ernest (Owings, Md.), Kenneth Johntry (Yaphank, N.Y.), Nicholas Soriano (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), Domenic Palumbo (Old Bethpage, N.Y.), Devin Caybasi (St. James, N.Y.), David Otero Jr. (Shelton, Conn.), Thomas Pallatto (Oceanside, N.Y.), Christopher Reilly (Levittown, N.Y.) and Joe D'Arco (Plainview, N.Y.) for senior day.

In the bottom of the first, the Rams (18-11, 10-4) jumped out to a 1-0 lead on an RBI single to right by sophomore first baseman Ernie Geraci (East Moriches, N.Y.) which scored Ernest. After Geraci moved to third on a Maritime (21-10, 9-5) throwing error, he came around to score on a passed ball. Farmingdale State added their third and final run of the inning on a Soriano RBI single to center field.

FSC extended the lead to 6-0 early in the second inning and used a two out 2 RBI single to center from sophomore second baseman Tyler Schrimpf (Miller Place, N.Y.) to go ahead, 8-0.

Maritime plated their first two runs in the top of the third on a passed ball and wild pitch. With bases loaded and no outs, a Matt Costleigh (West Islip, N.Y.) 3 RBI double down the left field line cut the deficit to 8-5. In the next Pirvateers at-bat, sophomore first baseman Phil Russo (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled to advance Costleigh to third, who later scored on a wild pitch. The seventh run of the inning came on an Antonio Diaz (Freeport, N.Y.) RBI single down the right field line.

The Rams regained a two-run lead, 9-7, in the fifth inning on a Vincent Rice (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) RBI double down the left field line which sent Johntry around to score.

Leading 9-8 in the bottom of the eighth, a Schrimpf infield single scored Anthony Gigante (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) and put Farmingdale State out in front, 10-8.

Junior pitcher Matthew Constantine (West Babylon, N.Y.) held Maritime scoreless in the ninth inning to seal the 10-8 victory and record his second save of the season.

Schrimpf was 3-for-3 with 3 RBI, while Geraci was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and 2 RBI. Rice had two hits, including a double, scored twice and had an RBI and Soriano added two hits and two runs batted in. Pallatto (2-0) recorded the win after allowing one run on three hits in 2.2 innings of relief.

For the Privateers, Costleigh led the way after going 3-for-5 at the plate with two doubles, a run scored and 3 RBI, while senior catcher Aaron Schiavoni (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) had three hits in five at-bats.

In the top of the sixth inning of game two, Maritime broke the scoreless tie and went ahead 3-0 on a 2 RBI triple to left center by Costleigh who also came around to score on an error. The Rams cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the inning as they plated an unearned run.

In the top of the seventh, senior designated hitter Stephen Semler (Kirkland, Wash.) led off with a walk and scored two batters later on a Shane Sullivan (Stewart Manor, N.Y.) RBI single up the middle.

Caybasi hit a one out triple down the right field line in the bottom of the seven and scored on a Joseph Roche (Westbury, N.Y.) groundout to pull the Rams within two. Senior pitcher Anthony D'Ancona (Bronx, N.Y.) retired the next FSC batter to cap off the complete game and 4-2 victory for the Privateers.

Roche was 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Palumbo and Schrimpf each had two hits. Constantine (3-1) picked up his first loss of the season after allowing three runs in 5.1 innings of work.

D'Ancona improved to 5-1 on the year after pitching a complete game, allowing one earned run and striking out three. 

Farmingdale State next will travel to Merchant Marine for a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 22nd at noon.
