Bronx, N.Y. - Lehman senior Emmanuel Velasquez (Bronx, N.Y.) (W, 4-4) threw a complete game and struck out six in the Lightning's 4-2 non-conference victory over Farmingdale State on Wednesday evening. The FSC baseball team dropped to 17-10 on the season, while Lehman improved to an even 14-14.

With runners on second and third and two outs in the bottom of the first, Lightning junior center fielder David Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) hit a single through the left side to bring home sophomore catcher Robert Kiernan (Bronxville, N.Y.) and give Lehman an early 1-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the second, a hit by pitch and a pair of walks followed by a wild pitch allowed sophomore left fielder Euriel Murray (Bronx, N.Y.) to score and put the Lightning up 2-0.

The Rams finally broke through in the fourth as junior right fielder Joseph Roche (Westbury, N.Y.) hit an RBI double to drive in junior shortstop Shawn Blasberg (Sound Beach, N.Y.) all the way from first and cut the deficit in half at 2-1.

Leading 3-1 in the sixth, Lehman junior second baseman Julius Puryear (West Orange, N.J.) hit an RBI single to center to score Murray and put the Lighting in front by three.

FSC tallied a run in the eighth on an RBI groundout by senior first baseman Christopher Reilly (Levittown, N.Y.), but were unable to score in the ninth as they fell, 4-2.

Roche and Reilly each finished with one run batted in, while Blasberg and sophomore center fielder Devin Caybasi (St. James, N.Y.) both scored a run.

Sophomore Vincent Rice (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) (0-1) took the loss after allowing two runs in two innings pitched.

For Lehman, Murray finished 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored, while Rodriguez and Puryear each tallied one hit and one RBI.

In his nine innings of work, Velasquez only allowed five hits, one walk and one earned run.

The Rams next hosts Maritime for a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 21st at noon.
