Farmingdale, N.Y. - In a home Skyline Conference baseball doubleheader against St. Joseph's-LI this afternoon, Farmingdale State earned 6-0 and 2-0 wins. In game one, FSC senior David Otero Jr. (Shelton, Conn.) tossed 7.1 scoreless innings, while junior Matthew Constantine (West Babylon, N.Y.) threw a shutout in the second game.

In bottom of the second, sophomore designated hitter Vincent Rice (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) led off with a single and advanced to second on a Shawn Blasberg (Sound Beach, N.Y.) sacrifice bunt. After a single by Anthony Gigante (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) put runners on first and third with one out, the Golden Eagles (12-13, 7-5) recorded the next two outs on a pick off at first and caught stealing at home.

With two outs and a runner on first in the top of the fifth, Otero Jr. ended the inning with a pick off to keep the game tied at 0-0.

Farmingdale State (17-9, 9-3) struck first and took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Rice RBI double down the left field line which scored sophomore first baseman Ernie Geraci (East Moriches, N.Y.).

In the bottom of the seventh, the Rams had runners on second and third with one out and used an RBI groundout from Tyler Schrimpf (Miller Place, N.Y.) to extend the advantage to 2-0.

FSC junior right fielder Joseph Roche (Westbury, N.Y.) led off the eighth with a double down the right field line and came around to score on a Rice RBI single to left. After a Blasberg single through the right side, an RBI single to right from Gigante put the Rams ahead, 4-0. In the next at-bat, a Nicholas Soriano (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) RBI groundout to second scored Blasberg and increased the lead to 5-0. Farmingdale State would add one more run to take a 6-0 advantage heading into the final inning.

Junior Logan Hicks (Ekron, KY), who entered the game with one out in the eighth, pitched a 1-2-3 ninth as the Rams captured game one, 6-0.

Otero Jr. (3-1) earned the win after 7.1 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out a career-high 10 and Hicks recorded his fourth save of the season after pitching the final 1.2 innings.

Rice was 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, while Gigante had three hits, two runs scored and a run batted in. For SJC-LI, junior right fielder Tyler Costa (Copiague, N.Y.) had two of the teams four hits.

In game two, a leadoff home run to left field by Rice in the bottom of the fourth inning gave Farmingdale State a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth, the Golden Eagles had runners on second and third with two outs but a strike out looking by Constantine ended the threat and kept the Rams ahead, 1-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, senior center fielder Brandon Ernest (Owings, Md.) reached base on an error and moved to third on a Roche single through the left side. In the next at-bat, a Geraci double down the left field line sent Ernest around to score and put FSC on top, 2-0.

St. Joe's-LI was held to two hits over the final two inning and were unable to score as FSC won the second game, 2-0.

Rice finished 1-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run, while four other players had one hit. Constantine improved to 3-0 on the season after a complete game shutout, allowing four hits and striking out three.

The Golden Eagles were led by junior designated hitter Michael Ferrufino (Levittown, N.Y.) who had two hits in three at-bats. 

The Rams next will travel to Lehman College for a non-conference game on Wednesday, April 18th at 4:00 p.m.
