Game 2: Farmingdale State - 6, Mount Saint Vincent - 1

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team played their first conference games of the season this afternoon and swept Mount Saint Vincent. FSC earned an 11-0 victory in the first game and closed out the doubleheader with a 6-1 win.

The Rams (10-3, 2-0 Skyline) opened the scoring in the first game on a sacrifice fly by sophomore first baseman Ernie Geraci (East Moriches, N.Y.) with the bases loaded to score junior left fielder Anthony Gigante (Bedford Hills, N.Y.). After a double steal by sophomore designated hitter Devin Caybasi (St. James, N.Y.) and senior center fielder Brandon Ernest (Owings, MD), a wild pitch allowed FSC to take a 2-0 advantage.

Leading 3-0 in the sixth, Rams freshman third baseman Jake Jacobs (Commack, N.Y.) hit a solo homerun to left field, the first of his career, to put FSC ahead by four.

After a three-run seventh, which saw RBI singles by both Geraci and Jacobs, a four-run eighth put the game out of reach for the Dolphins (6-7, 2-2 Skyline) as FSC earned the 11-0 victory.

The Rams were led by Geraci's four hits and four RBI's. Jacobs and junior shortstop Shawn Blasberg (Sound Beach, N.Y.) tallied two RBI's each, while freshman Joey Barbuto (North Babylon, N.Y.) was 1-for-1 with an RBI and two runs scored off the bench.

Sophomore Joe Marino (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) (2-1), who earned the win, and senior David Otero Jr. (Shelton, Conn.), who picked up his first save of the season, only allowed four base runners in eight shutout innings.

Tied 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning of game two, FSC senior first baseman Christopher Reilly (Levittown, N.Y.) hit a two-run homerun to left field to give the Rams a 3-1 lead.

With Farmingdale State still leading 3-1 in the top of the seventh, a leadoff walk by sophomore second baseman Tyler Schrimpf (Miller Place, N.Y.) followed by an Ernest single set up first and second with no outs. Senior third baseman Domenic Palumbo (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) was the next batter and he hit an RBI single to center field to score Schrimpf. After a sacrifice bunt by Geraci, a pinch-hit two-run single by sophomore Vincent Rice (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) put the Rams up by five.

FSC junior Matthew Constantine (West Babylon, N.Y.) would record the final three outs in the bottom of the seventh as Farmingdale State earned the game two victory, 6-1.

Reilly finished the second game 2-for-2 with a walk, two RBI's and a run scored, while Ernest was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Geraci and Blasberg finished with two hits apiece in the win.

Junior Ryan Mallon (Deer Park, N.Y.) (4-0) was credited with the win after striking out four in 2.1 scoreless innings, while Constantine earned the save after pitching two scoreless innings in relief.

For Mount Saint Vincent, freshman second baseman Matt DiNocia (Naples, Fla.) was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in game two.
