Baseball Season Recap

 

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team entered the playoffs as the #3 seed after posting a 13-5 record in conference play this season. In the First Round, single-elimination game, the Rams were unable to break through against #6 Merchant Marine, as they were elimnated with a 2-0 loss. FSC finished the year 21-15 overall.

Farmingdale State had three All-Skyline Honorees. Farmingdale State senior first baseman Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.), senior pitcher Matt Seelinger (Westbury, N.Y.) and freshman outfielder Vincent Rice (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) were each named First Team All-Conference.

Seelinger also earned All-ECAC First Team honors, D3Baseball.com Second Team All-New York Region and Second Team ABCA/Rawlings All-New York Region for his outstanding season. Rice was named an All-ECAC Honorable Mention.

McCarthy led the Rams in runs (28), triples (4), home runs (3), RBI's (30), total bases (64) and was second in hits (42), doubles (5), slugging percentage (.552) and stolen bases (5).

Rice batted a team-leading .413 in 34 games this year. He recorded an FSC-best 45 hits and also led the Rams in doubles (8), on-base percentage (.488) and stolen bases (8), while ranking second in both runs scored (23) and triples (3). Rice finished the season 63rd in the NCAA for batting average.

Seelinger was 4-1 with a 1.39 earned run average and a team and conference-leading 69 strikeouts. In the Nation, Seelinger ranked fifth for hits allowed per 9-innings, ninth for WHIP, 15th in strikeouts per 9-innings and 16th for ERA.

FSC infielders Nick Osburn (East Islip, N.Y.), Tyler Schrimpf (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Nicholas Soriano (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) each tallied 11+ RBI's along with a .352+ batting average this season.

Sophomore pitcher David Otero Jr. (Shelton, Conn.) posted a 1.16 earned run average in 31 innings pitched this season.

The Rams graduated four seniors this year.
