Farmingdale State - 14, Stevens - 4

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team hosted non-conference opponent Stevens this afternoon and won 14-4. The Rams used a seven-run third inning to help capture the victory.

Stevens (13-13-1) got on the board early as they loaded the bases in the first inning after a double and a pair of walks. The next batter, senior first baseman P.J. Wiegartner (Hamilton Square, N.J.) drove in a run with an RBI groundout, and was followed by a run-scoring double down the left field line from sophomore third baseman Carlos Leon (Boca Raton, Fla.) to give the Ducks a 2-0 advantage.

After loading the bases once again in the second inning, Stevens designated hitter Alex Detweiler (Sarasota, Fla.) hit a single up the middle to plate a pair and double the Ducks lead to 4-0.

The Rams (15-12) used a HBP and a pair of singles by sophomore right fielder Nick Attardi (Smithtown, N.Y.) and freshman left fielder Vincent Rice (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) to tally their first run of the third inning. After an errant pickoff throw allowed Attardi to score, the next three batters reached base safely. Senior first baseman Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) hit an RBI double to left field, sophomore designated hitter Joseph Roche (Westbury, N.Y.) hit a single to right center and junior second baseman Domenic Palumbo (Plainview, N.Y.) reached on an error while sacrifice bunting which scored two more FSC runs and gave Farmingdale their first lead of the game, 5-4.

Later in the third, run-scoring singles by both freshman shortstop Tyler Schrimpf (Miller Place, N.Y.) and freshman catcher Anthony Sirianni (Sayville, N.Y.) plated the final two runs of the the Rams seven-run inning.

Farmingdale State tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Rice and McCarthy hit back-to-back triples to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Palumbo hit an RBI double to bring home McCarthy. Palumbo was later driven home on another Schrimpf single to give FSC the 10-4 advantage.

The Rams tallied a run in the seventh, before scoring three more in eighth as they earned the non-conference victory.

Farmingdale State sophomore pitcher Matthew Constantine (West Babylon, N.Y.) earned the victory after tossing five innings and striking out three. Junior relief pitcher David Otero Jr. (Shelton, Conn.) pitched four scoreless innings for the Rams.

McCarthy finished a homerun away from the cycle as he went 4-5 with two RBI's and two runs scored. Schrimpf was 3-4 with a walk and three RBI's, while Palumbo ended 2-2 with three runs scored.

The Ducks were led by sophomore catcher Donny Gherardi (Oradell, N.J.) who was 2-3 with a run scored.
