Farmingdale, N.Y. - After dropping the first game 11-3, Farmingdale State sophomore pitcher Matthew Constantine (West Babylon, N.Y.) threw six shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out six to lead the Rams to a 3-0 victory in game two versus Mount Saint Mary.
The Knights (3-13, 1-3 Skyline) took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI single up the middle by freshman shortstop John Santana (Warwick, N.Y.). Three batters later, a 2 RBI single to center field by freshman left fielder Michael Doxey (Highland, N.Y.) put MSMC up by three. The Knights added one more run in the first to increase the advantage to 4-0.
In the top of the second, a bases loaded walk to freshman first baseman Kevin Colgan (Islip, N.Y.) and a Tom Huvane (Eastchester, N.Y.) RBI single plated two runs to put Mount Saint Mary ahead, 6-0.
After each team scored a run in the fifth, the Knights used a three-run sixth inning to open up a nine-run lead at 10-1.
With bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the sixth, sophomore shortstop Anthony Gigante (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly to center which scored Joseph Roche (Westbury, N.Y.). Farmingdale State (6-8, 3-1 Skyline) added a second run on a fielders choice RBI from junior right fielder Brandon Ernest (Owings, Md.) to cut the deficit to 10-3.
Mount Saint Mary plated the final run of the game in the ninth inning to cap off the 11-3 game one victory.
Senior first baseman Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) finished 2-for-3 at the plate, while Gigante was 1-for-2 with an RBI, run scored and two stolen bases.
The Knights were led by freshman second baseman Nick Rizzo (Smithtown, N.Y.) who was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and Huvane's 3-for-6 effort with a run scored and 2 RBI.
In game two, the Rams jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a Cam Alfano (Yahpank, N.Y.) RBI triple to left center. The next inning, FSC took a 2-0 advantage on an RBI groundout from freshman catcher Anthony Sirianni (Sayville, N.Y.) which scored McCarthy.
The Rams scored their final run of the game in the sixth and held the Knights to only three hits in the 3-0 victory.
Alfano was 2-for-3 with a triple and run batted in, while McCarthy was 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
Constantine improved to 3-1 on the year and senior Matt Seelinger (Westbury, N.Y.) picked up the save after pitching a 1-2-3 seventh inning.
FSC next will travel to Ramapo for a non-conference game on Wednesday, March 29th at 3:30 p.m.
