Spring Break Update - Rams Baseball

Farmingdale N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team have played six games down in Florida, with two wins and four losses. They wrap up the trip today with a doubleheader against FDU-Florham.

The Rams flew down on Thursday, March 9th and on the first night had a chance to sit and talk with Joe Girardi. Coach sat down and spoke with the team for an hour and answered any questions.

 

Saturday, March 11th

Against Brockport, Farmingdale State split the games with a 6-0 win and a 7-1 loss.

FSC went up 1-0 in the first game with an RBI single to right from senior first baseman Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.). Junior third baseman Nick Osburn (East Islip, N.Y.) made it 2-0 with a homerun to right center in the bottom of the fourth. FSC closed out the game adding four more runs in the sixth to secure the 6-0 victory. Junior pitcher Ryan O'Connor (Babylon, N.Y.) was awarded the win, throwing 1.2 no-hit innings.

In game two, Brockport led 2-0 after two innings, before the Rams cut the lead to 2-1 with a junior Christopher Reilly (Levittown, N.Y.) single to score junior Ryan Osborne (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.). Brockport added five runs in the sixth en route to the win.

Sunday, March 12th

The Rams split with Westfield State, winning the first game 3-2 followed by a 4-2 loss.

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh, junior rightfielder Brandon Ernest (Owings, Md.) stole home to tie the game at 2-2. With two on and two out, freshman designated hitter Vincent Rice (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) hit a double to left to bring home senior catcher Kenneth Johntry (Yaphank, N.Y.) for the walk-off 3-2 victory.

Game two saw four errors from FSC, with the pitching staff allowing just one earned run on five hits. The Rams led 1-0 after one and trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, but another run from Westfield would seal the win and a complete game by Westfield pitcher Nate Marshall.

Tuesday, March 14th

Farmingdale State fell to Fredonia in two close games.

The Rams fell 1-0 in the bottom of the eighth in game one. Fredonia used a triple and an RBI single to score the walk-off winning run.

FSC led 5-0 after two innings in the second game, but Fredonia chipped away with a run in the third, two runs in the fifth and a four-run sixth to hold the 7-5 advantage. In the bottom of the seventh, the Rams tied the game with an RBI double by freshman Justin Norcini (Levittown, N.Y.), before a controversial call at first would have tied it up, but ended the game on a double play.
