New York, N.Y. - The Skyline Conference's nine baseball head coaches have voted on their 2016 all-conference team, and St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn right-handed pitcher/infielder Brian Luebcke (Astoria, N.Y.) has been tabbed as Player of the Year. Farmingdale State's Matt Seelinger (Jr./Westbury, N.Y.) and Nick Attardi (Fr./Smithtown, N.Y.) have been named Pitcher and Rookie of the Year, respectively, while second-year Maritime College mentor Charlie Barbieri takes home the Coach of the Year award.
Attardi and Seelinger receive First Team distinction along with their major awards. They both were also just named to the All-Farmingdale State team at our Annual Senior Awards Brunch last week for their outstanding play this season.
Attardi received weekly honors from the Skyline on four occasions, including three Rookie of the Week citations and the April 25 Player of the Week award. He leads the list of qualifying hitters in the conference with a .430 batting average, is reaching base at a Skyline-best .522 clip (22 walks) and has scored 29 runs. Nationally, Attardi is currently 44th in Division III with a .512 on-base percentage, 69th with a .416 batting average.
Seelinger, a righty, limited the opposition to a .193 batting average and compiled a 4-1 record with a 2.72 ERA (#2 in conference) and 60 strikeouts (#3 in Skyline). Additionally, entering Tuesday's (May 10) Skyline Conference championship round against St. Joseph's College-LI, he has allowed just 57 baserunners (39 H, 15 BB, 3 HBP) in 56.1 innings pitched. Nationally, he is ranked #37 for WHIP (which stands for walks plus hits per inning pitched) at a 0.97. He is also ranked #48 with 6.57 hits allowed per nine innings.
