Seelinger Tosses Complete Game as Rams Sweep St. Joe's-Brooklyn

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team won game one 7-1 and followed with a 5-1 victory in game two to cap off the doubleheader sweep of St. Joseph's-Brooklyn this afternoon. The Rams improved to 16-12 overall and 10-2 in Skyline play, while the Bears fell to 17-17, 5-7.

In the top of the first inning of game one, FSC freshman designated hitter Joshua Shapiro (Melville, N.Y.) hit a two-out double and Christopher Reilly (Levittown, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single to give the Rams an early 1-0 lead.

After St. Joe's-Brooklyn tied the game at 1-1, a Domenic Palumbo (Plainview, N.Y.) RBI double down the left field line in the seventh regained the lead for Farmingdale State, 2-1. The Rams took a 3-1 advantage three batters later with a Nick Attardi (Smithtown, N.Y.) RBI single to right center. FSC added two more runs in the inning to extend the advantage to 5-1.

In the top of the eighth, the Rams used RBI doubles from Anthony Gigante (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) and Attardi to score the final two runs of the game for the 7-1 win.

Palumbo led the way after going 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI, while Shapiro and Attardi each added two hits. Junior Matt Seelinger (Westbury, N.Y.) pitched his second consecutive complete game, allowing one run on five hits and striking out eight.

In game two, the Rams went ahead 1-0 in the top of the first after sophomore Ryan Osborne (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. In FSC's next at-bat, Palumbo recorded an RBI single through the left side to go on top, 2-0. 

After adding a run in the second, Farmingdale State plated two more in the third to take a 5-0 lead. The Bears would score once in the fifth as FSC capped off the sweep with a 5-1 victory in the second game of the doubleheader.

Attardi had three hits in four at-bats, scored a run and had an RBI, while freshman shortstop Brandon Snow (Owings, MD) was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Senior catcher Kenneth Johntry (Yaphank, N.Y.) finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Senior pitcher Kevin Martinez (Glen Cove, N.Y.) improved to 3-0 after allowing one run on five hits in 4.1 innings of work.

The baseball team will now travel to Mount Saint Mary for a Skyline doubleheader on Sunday, April 24th at noon.
