Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team split a Skyline Conference doubleheader with St. Joseph's-L.I. this evening. The Rams earned a 7-0 win in game one and fell, 5-1, in the second game of the night.

In the top of the first of game one, St. Joe's had runners on first and third with two outs, before freshman pitcher Matthew Constantine (West Babylon, N.Y.) forced a pop-up to end the inning. The Rams scored two in the bottom of the inning on two hits and one error. Freshman centerfield Nick Attardi (Smithtown, N.Y.) led off with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Brian Brenton (Calverton, N.Y.). After Brenton stole second, both runners scored on a Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) double to left center to put Farmingdale State ahead, 2-0.

In the top of the fifth, Joseph Calabrese (Westbury, N.Y.) walked and was advanced to third on a single by Mike Griffo (Massapequa Park, N.Y.). Sophomore pitcher David Otero, Jr. (Shelton, Conn.) entered the game with one out and forced the final two outs to keep the Rams ahead 2-0.

In the sixth, McCarthy gave the Rams a 3-0 lead with an RBI single to center. Three batters later, a bases loaded walk by freshman shortstop Brandon Snow (Owings, Md.) increased the advantage to 4-0. The Rams followed with an RBI single by Ryan Osborne (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) and Kenneth Johntry (Yaphank, N.Y.) was later hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to put Farmingdale State on top, 6-0.

FSC scored the final run of the game on a Johntry sac fly in the eighth as the Rams earned a 7-0 victory in game one.

McCarthy finished 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and a game-high 3 RBI. Constantine recorded a no-decision after pitching four innings, allowing no runs on three hits, while Otero, Jr. improved to 2-1 with three hitless innings of relief.

In game two, senior left fielder Nick Girardi (Syosset, N.Y.) led off the top of the fourth with a single through the right side and advanced to second on a single by Bob Keating (Rockville Centre, N.Y.). Two batters later, Joseph Lynn (Kings Park, N.Y.) walked and Calabrese followed with an RBI single through the right side to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 advantage.

With one on and two out in the top of the sixth, Calabrese hit a 2-run home run to extend the SJC lead to 3-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, Brenton singled up the middle, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. In FSC's next at-bat, Matteo Gaudio (Glen Cove, N.Y.) reached on an error and Brenton scored to cut the deficit to 3-1.

The Golden Eagles added two runs in the seventh en route to the 5-1 game two victory.

Senior pitcher Brandon Lubrano (Mineola, N.Y.) earned the win for the Golden Eagles after a complete game, allowing one run on one hit with six strikeouts.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Mount Saint Vincent for a Skyline Conference DH on Saturday, April 16th at noon.
