Comeback Victory Leads Rams to Sweep of Purchase

Purchase, N.Y. - After a 6-3 victory in the first game at Purchase, Farmingdale State scored two runs in the top of the seventh in game two for the 4-3 win and the doubleheader sweep. The FSC baseball team improved to 9-10 overall and 4-0 in the Skyline Conference.

In game one, the Rams took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Brandon Snow (Owings, MD) RBI single to center which scored Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.). Two batters later, Brian Brenton (Calverton, N.Y.) recorded an RBI single to center field to put the Rams ahead, 2-0.

In the top of the third, Farmingdale State increased their advantage to 3-0 after a one out sacrifice fly to left field from Joshua Shapiro (Melville, N.Y.) scored Nick Attardi (Smithtown, N.Y.).

After Purchase plated one run in the sixth, the Rams responded with a run in the seventh after Anthony Gigante (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) scored on a passed ball.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Panthers cut the deficit to 4-3 on a 2 RBI double to left field by Mathew Chavez (Brooklyn, N.Y.). FSC scored the final two runs of the game in the ninth on a Domenic Palumbo (Plainview, N.Y.) 2 RBI double to left as the Rams captured the first game, 6-3.

Brenton was 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI, while McCarthy was 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run. Junior pitcher Matt Seelinger (Westbury, N.Y.) earned the win after allowing zero earned runs on one hit with six strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.

In game two the Rams trailed 3-2 entering the seventh inning. After back-to-back groundouts to start the inning, Ryan Osborne (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) hit an infield single and Christopher Reilly (Levittown, N.Y.) walked in FSC's next at-bat. An Attardi walk loaded the bases before Charles O'Neill Jr. (North Babylon, N.Y.) recorded a pinch hit 2 RBI single to left, putting the Rams on top, 4-3.

Freshman pitcher Kenneth Simco (Calverton, N.Y.) threw a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh inning to earn the save and secure the 4-3 victory. Sophomore David Otero Jr. (Shelton, Conn.) earned the win after 1.2 innings of relief allowing only two hits.

Snow finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate and scored a run, while Kenneth Johntry (Yaphank, N.Y.) was 1-for-1 with a double and 2 RBI.

The baseball team next will play host to St. Joseph's-LI in a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 13th at 5:00 p.m.
