Rams Set Season-High for Hits in Win Over Baruch

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team had a season-high 22 hits in tonight's 16-1 non-conference victory over Baruch.

After Baruch (7-14) took an early 1-0 lead, the Rams (7-10) tied the game in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout by Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) which scored Brandon Ernest (Owings, MD).

Farmingdale State freshman shortstop Brandon Snow (Owings, MD) led off the second with a triple and scored on a Brian Brenton (Calverton, N.Y.) single in the Rams' next at-bat. FSC increased their lead to 3-1 after an RBI double down the left field line from Nick Attardi (Smithtown, N.Y.). The Rams used RBI singles from both Ernest and Joshua Shapiro (Melville, N.Y.) to take a 5-1 advantage.

FSC plated six runs on six hits in the bottom of the third to open up an 11-1 lead. The Rams added three in the fifth and a run in both the sixth and eighth innings en route to the 16-1 victory.

Shapiro was 5-for-6 with a run scored and 2 RBI, while Snow was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and triple, scored three runs, had 3 RBI and stole two bases. Freshman third baseman Anthony Gigante (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) had three hits in five at-bats with a run scored and a run batted in. McCarthy finished the game 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and 2 RBI, while Brenton, Attardi and freshman catcher Joseph Roche (Westbury, N.Y.) each added two hits for the Rams.

Freshman pitcher Matthew Constantine (West Babylon, N.Y.) earned the win and improved to 1-1 on the season after allowing one run in five innings of work.

The Bearcats were led by senior center fielder Luca Altamirano (Flushing, N.Y.) who had a team-high three hits and scored a run.

Farmingdale State next will play host to St. Joseph's-LI in a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 9th at noon.
