Rams Open Conference Play with Sweep of Yeshiva

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team opened Skyline Conference play with a doubleheader sweep of Yeshiva this afternoon. The Rams are now 6-10 overall in 2-0 in the Skyline, while the Maccabees fell to 0-15, 0-5.

In game one, the Rams allowed a run in the top of the first but responded with three in the bottom of first, four in the second and one in the third to take an 8-1 lead. FSC added eight runs in the fifth and seven in the sixth en route to the 23-1 run-rule victory.

Senior first baseman Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) was 2-for-4 at the plate with a game-high 4 RBI, while freshman second baseman Joshua Shapiro (Melville, N.Y.) had two hits, three runs scored and three runs batted in. Sophomore right fielder Joshua Ockimey (Uniondale, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and 3 RBI and freshman third baseman Michael Ciullo (Melville, N.Y.) had two hits, scored three runs and added 1 RBI for Farmingdale State.

Senior pitcher Kevin Martinez (Glen Cove, N.Y.) earned the win and improved to 2-0 on the year after four scoreless innings of relief.

In the second game, Farmingdale State plated one run in the first and five in the second inning to open up a 6-0 lead. Yeshiva scored twice in the top of the third to cut the deficit to 6-2, before FSC answered with a run in the fourth. The Rams earned the 11-3 game two victory over the Maccabees.

Attardi finished the second game of the DH 2-for-3 at the plate with a run batted in and a game-high four runs scored, while sophomore first baseman Christopher Reilly (Levittown, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 with a run and 2 RBI.

Farmingdale State Freshman pitcher Kenneth Simco (Calverton, N.Y.) recorded the win after tossing four innings of relief to improve to 3-2 on the year.

The baseball team next will play host to Baruch in a non-conference game on Thursday, April 7th at 5:00 p.m.
