Rams Drop Non-Conference Game to William Paterson

Farmingdale, N.Y. - William Paterson scored five runs in the first inning en route to the 11-6 non-conference win this afternoon. The Farmingdale State baseball team dropped to 0-4 on the year, while the Pioneers improved to 3-2.

Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the first, freshman center fielder Nick Attardi (Smithtown, N.Y.) scored from third after a strikeout and throw to first base to cut the deficit to 5-1.

William Paterson increased their lead to 6-1 in the top of the third inning on a single from third baseman K.C. Abel (Wayne, N.J.) which plated Jacob Bailey (Middletown, N.J.)

In the bottom of the fourth, senior first baseman Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) led off with a single and Christopher Reilly (Levittown, N.Y.) and Domenic Palumbo (Plainview, N.Y.) followed with walks to load the bases. In FSC's next at-bat, freshman shortstop Brandon Snow (Owings, MD) hit an RBI single through the left side to pull the Rams within four, 6-2. After an RBI bases loaded walk to Ryan Osborne (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) cut the deficit to 6-3, Palumbo later stole home to make the score 6-4.

Farmingdale State tied the game at 6-6 on a two-out 2 RBI double by sophomore right fielder Brandon Ernest (Owings, MD) in the bottom of the sixth.

The Pioneers quickly responded with four runs in the top of the seventh before adding the games final run in the ninth for the 11-6 victory.

Ernest was 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of runs batted in, while Reilly scored two runs.

William Paterson was led by Abel who was 3-for-6 with 2 RBI and Bailey who went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and 2 RBI.

Freshman pitcher Chris Babb (West Milford, N.J.) earned the win after allowing two runs on two hits in three innings of relief.

FSC next will host Eastern Connecticut in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 12th at noon.
