Fayetteville, N.C. - The Farmingdale State baseball team opened the 2016 season with three games at the Fayetteville Tournament this past weekend. The Rams dropped a DH to Frostburg State on Saturday and fell to Brockport on Sunday.

In the first game against Frostburg State, the Bobcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by junior right fielder Devin Bell (Walkersville, MD). In their next at-bat, junior left fielder Brad Garrant (Rising Sun, MD) hit a 2-run homerun to left to put Frostburg State ahead, 3-0.

The Bobcats added three runs in the fourth and one in the sixth en route to the 7-0 victory. Sophomore pitcher Greg Schneider (Jefferson Hills, Penn.) earned the win after throwing six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out 10.

Farmingdale State's Ryan O'Connor (Babylon, N.Y.) took the loss after allowing three earned runs in two innings of work.

In game two, the Rams trailed 2-0 in the top of the second and cut the deficit in half on a single by sophomore third baseman Domenic Palumbo (Plainview, N.Y.) which scored Christopher Reilly (Levittown, N.Y.). A Nick Attardi (Smithtown, N.Y.) RBI sac fly later in the inning tied the game at 2-2.

Trailing 3-2 in the top of the fifth, Farmingdale State again tied the game with a Reilly RBI double.

The Bobcats plated 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 13-3 lead. Neither team would score over the final two innings as the Rams fell, 13-3.

Freshman shortstop Anthony Gigante (Bedford Hills, NY) was 2-for-2 at the plate, while Reilly was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI for FSC.

The Bobcats were led by senior shortstop KJ Hockaday (Joppa, MD) who was 3-for-4 in the game with a run scored and 3 RBI.

In the final game of the weekend against Brockport, the Golden Eagles led 14-0 after five innings. Farmingdale State scored their only run of the game in the seventh inning on a bases loaded walk to Reilly before Brockport added two runs in the ninth for the 16-1 victory.

Brockport's Chris Davis (Syracuse, N.Y.) was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and 3 RBI.

The Rams next will host William Paterson in a non-conference game on Tuesday, March 8th at 3:30 p.m.
