2015 Baseball Season Recap


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team fell short in their bid for an eighth consecutive Skyline Conference Title as they lost 11-4 to Old Westbury in the Championship Game. The Rams finished the year with a 19-17 overall record (8-6 Skyline).

Senior outfielder Michael Marino (Franklin Square, N.Y.) was named ABCA/Rawlings Third Team All-American, First Team ABCA/Rawlings All-New York Region, Second Team D3baseball.com All-Region and First Team All-Conference. Senior OF/Util. Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and freshman pitcher Ryan O'Connor (Babylon, N.Y.) were each named ABCA/Rawlings All-Region and Second Team All-Conference, while junior 1B/P Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) and sophomore utility Richard Sullivan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) earned Second Team All-Skyline honors.

Marino finished the season with a .463 batting average, 50 hits, 10 doubles, 21 RBI, 28 runs scored, a .602 slugging percentage and a .539 on-base percentage. He ranked sixth in the nation in batting average, 11th in on-base percentage, 16th for stolen bases per game and 22nd in total stolen bases.

Alvino batted a career-high .418 with 38 hits and 18 runs batted in. He was the 17th toughest batter in Division III to strike out with only 3 K's in 102 plate appearances. Senior infielder Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) batted .308 this season and became the FSC All-Time hits leader with 166, surpassing Kevin Curtis (2008-2011).

Sophomore C/Util. Nick Osburn (East Islip, N.Y.) hit .320 with a 13 extra-base hits, including team-high's in triples (4) and home runs (2).

O'Connor was 6-1 on the year with a 3.99 ERA, while junior Kevin Cashman (Hicksville, N.Y.) posted a 2-3 record with a 2.37 ERA. Senior Alex Pangourelias (Briarwood, N.Y.) tallied a team-high five saves on the season.

The Rams graduated seven seniors this year.
