Farmingdale State - 9, Staten Island - 7

Staten Island, N.Y. - A wild pitch and double steal in the top of the seventh, helped the Farmingdale State baseball team to a 9-7 non-conference victory over the College of Staten Island on Thursday afternoon. The Rams improved to 14-13 with the win, while CSI dropped to 18-10.

A two-out RBI single by sophomore third baseman Nick Osburn (East Islip, N.Y.) in the first inning, scored Brian Brenton (Baiting Hollow, N.Y.) for a 1-0 Rams advantage, before CSI took the lead in the bottom of the inning 4-1.

In the fourth with CSI leading 5-2, Farmingdale State used three hits to take back the lead, 6-5. Senior shortstop Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) brought in three runs with a triple to right center, while a Sage Turner (Staten Island, N.Y.) single to right scored Rydzewski.

In the bottom of the fourth, CSI stole back the lead with a two-run homer but the Rams would tie the game at 7-7 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by sophomore left fielder Dan Lombardo (Oceanside, N.Y.).

Osburn led off the seventh with a single, followed by a single from Richard Sullivan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and a walk by freshman first baseman Christopher Reilly (Levittown, N.Y.) to load the bases. A one-out wild pitch scored the go-ahead run, leaving runners on second and third. The Rams followed up with a double steal by Reilly and Sullivan, with Sullivan stealing home for a 9-7 lead.

Farmingdale State held the Dolphins scoreless over the final two innings, as freshman Jon Schreier (Staten Island, N.Y.) pitched the 8th and freshman David Otero Jr. (Shelton, Conn.) picked up his second save of the year with a scoreless ninth inning. Junior Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) was awarded the win with a five-inning outing in relief, allowing six hits and two earned runs.

Rydzewski finished with a team-high three RBI's on two hits with two runs scored. Osburn went 3-for-5 with two RBI's, while Reilly was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

The Rams will closeout their conference schedule on Saturday, April 25th at Maritime College. The top four teams in the Skyline will advance to the Playoffs on May 1-3, hosted by St. Joseph's (L.I.).
