Rams Split with Knights in First Home Doubleheader

Game 1: Farmingdale State - 9, Mount Saint Mary - 2 (9-inning)

Game 2: Mount Saint Mary - 8, Farmingdale State - 7 (7-inning)


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team played their first home baseball games of the season today and split their conference doubleheader with Mount Saint Mary College, taking game one 9-2 and falling in the second game, 8-7. The Rams now stand at 8-11, 3-3 in Skyline play, while the Knights improved to 8-8, 4-2.

In game one, freshman right hander Ryan O'Connor (Babylon, N.Y.) got the start and went five innings, allowing just two earned runs with four strikeouts en route to the win. The Farmingdale State offense posted two runs in both the first and second inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead, before the Knights got a run back in the third to make it 4-1. The Rams would score in every inning besides the sixth, as they held Mount Saint Mary to just one run the rest of the way.

Junior right hander Kevin Martinez (Glen Cove, N.Y.) pitched the final four innings with five strikeouts and no earned runs off two hits and three walks. Junior first baseman Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) finished 2-for-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored, while Anthony McQuade totaled three hits with two runs batted in. Senior shortstop Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Game two saw the Rams with a 7-1 advantage heading into the seventh inning, before the Knights strung together seven runs on five hits and three walks to take the 8-7 lead. Farmingdale State could not recover in the bottom of the inning, as junior Sean Betterly (East Meadow, N.Y.) pitched the final three outs to pick up the save for Mount Saint Mary.

McCarthy and senior right fielder Michael Marino (Franklin Square, N.Y.) both finished 2-for-3 with a run scored. Marino knocked in two runs, while McCarthy had one RBI. Rydzewski scored a team-high three runs on two walks and one hit.

Farmingdale State will travel to face Old Westbury tomorrow (Sunday, April 12th) for another Skyline doubleheader at Noon.
