Bergmann and Weingarten Named ECAC Metro All-Stars

Centerville, Mass. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2014 Division III Metro Softball All-Star teams and major award winners. The voting was completed by the head coaches within the ECAC Division III Metro Baseball membership.

Senior outfielder Edward Bergmann (East Meadow, N.Y.) was selected as a First Team All-Star, after batting a team-high .421, while also leading in six other categories. In Division III, he finished the season ranked 8th in stolen bases and stolen bases per game, 45th in both batting average and runs per game and 46th for on-base percentage. From the outfield, he finished with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, 99 putouts and an outfield leading six assists. This season, he was also named ABCA/Rawlings Third Team All-American, ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team, D3baseball.com First Team All-Region, ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-Region, First Team All-Skyline and the 2013-14 All-Farmingdale State team (given to the Top 10 athletes).

Sophomore pitcher Alex Weingarten (East Rockaway, N.Y.) was selected to the Second Team, as he posted a team-best 5-1 record with two complete games and two saves. He led the Skyline Conference with a 1.73 ERA, allowing a conference-low 11 earned runs in 57.1 innings of work. He also finished 5th in the Skyline for opposing batting average, holding batters to just .231. Weingarten is ranked 47th in Division III for earned run average. This season, he also garnered awards as D3baseball.com Third Team All-Region and First Team All-Skyline.
