2014 Baseball Season Recap

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The baseball team captured their seventh straight Skyline Championship after a 3-0 performance in the playoffs at Old Westbury. The Rams season ended in the NCAA New York Regional Tournament held at Ithaca. Farmingdale State finished the year with a 27-13 overall record.

Senior outfielder Edward Bergmann (East Meadow, N.Y.), junior shortstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and sophomore pitcher Alex Weingarten (East Rockaway, N.Y.) were named First Team All-Conference, while junior outfielder Michael Marino (Franklin Square, N.Y.), junior second baseman Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and freshman catcher Kenneth Johntry (Yaphank, N.Y.) received Second Team honors.

Bergmann was also tabbed ABCA/Rawlings Third Team All-American, First Team All-New York Region, a Gold Glove Award winner and D3baseball.com First Team All-Region. He led the Rams in batting average (.421), hits (53), runs scored (42), on-base percentage (.503), stolen bases (30) and held a perfect fielding percentage. Marino, who was named Second Team ABCA/Rawlings All-Region, batted .343 with team-high's in triples (7), home runs (2) and runs batted in (35).

Alvino hit .333 on the year with 11 extra-base hits, while Rydzewski batted .310 with 45 hits and 33 runs scored in a team-high 145 at-bats.

Weingarten anchored the pitching staff and was named ABCA/Rawlings Second Team All-New York Region. He was 5-1 on the year with a 1.73 ERA and had 39 strikeouts in 57.1 innings of work. Weingarten held opponents to a .231 batting average. Senior pitcher Chris Dragone (Hicksville, N.Y.) held a team-low 1.29 ERA in 13 relief appearances. He allowed only five earned runs in 35 innings pitched.

The Rams graduated 10 seniors this season.
