2014 ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Teams Announced

- Bergmann, Marino and Weingarten named All-Region -


The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Region teams were announced on Monday, May 19th. The teams are selected by a committee of eight coaches throughout the country, who are responsible for naming All-Region teams, All-Americans, Coaches of the Year and Gold Glove recipients.

Farmingdale State had three players named All-New York Region as senior outfielder Edward Bergmann (East Meadow, N.Y.) was a First Team selection, while junior outfielder Michael Marino (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and sophomore pitcher Alex Weingarten (East Rockaway, N.Y.) earned Second Team honors.

Bergmann led the Rams in six offensive categories this season - batting average (.421), hits (53), on-base percentage (.503), stolen bases (30), runs (42) and doubles (8). In Division III, Bergmann is 4th for stolen bases per game (0.88), 10th in stolen bases, 23rd in both on-base percentage and batting average and 29th in runs scored per game (1.21). He had a team-high six outfield assists and posted a perfect fielding percentage on the year.

Marino, who played in all 40 games while starting 39, led the team in triples (7), home runs (2) and slugging percentage (.536). Marino ranks 10th in the Nation for triples and 12th in triples per game (0.19). Defensively, he committed only one error this season en route to a .988 fielding percentage.

Weingarten led the pitching staff with a 5-1 record in 13 appearances (7 starts). He posted a 1.73 earned run average and struck out 39 batters in 57.1 innings pitched. Weingarten held opponents to a .231 batting average this year.
