Rams Stay Alive in Regionals; Eliminate Stevens

Newark, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team defeated Stevens (27-15) this morning, 6-2, to stay alive in the Newark, N.Y. Regionals. The Rams (27-12) advance to the 7:45 p.m. elimination game tonight against the winner of #4 Rutgers-Camden/#2 Kean.

Farmingdale State grabbed the 1-0 lead in the top of the first as senior right fielder Edward Bergmann (East Meadow, N.Y.) scored on a wild pitch. The Rams added two runs in the second off an RBI double to right by senior first baseman Sal Sanquini (Levittown, N.Y.) and an RBI single to right by Kenneth Johntry (Yaphank, N.Y.) to make it 3-0.

In the fourth and fifth innings, they scored a run to grab the 5-0 advantage. Junior second baseman Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored on a passed ball and a sacrifice fly by freshman left fielder Richard Sullivan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored junior centerfielder Michael Marino (Franklin Square, N.Y.) from third.

Stevens tabbed runs in both the fifth and seventh innings, but could not get the offense going as they stranded nine runners on base.

Senior Michael Dolce (St. James, N.Y.) got the win over 5.1 innings allowing just four hits with three strikeouts. Senior Chris Dragone (Hicksville, N.Y.) was awarded the save after a 3.2 inning outing with four hits and a walk.

The winner of tonight's game will advance to a 1:00 p.m. elimination game tomorrow, against the loser of today's 4:30 p.m. game featuring #1 Cortland/#3 Amherst.
