2013 Baseball Season Recap


Farmingdale, N.Y. - With a 15-1 record in conference play, Farmingdale State earned the #1 seed and home field advantage for the playoffs. The Rams claimed their sixth consecutive Skyline Conference Championship without losing a game in the tournament. After traveling to Ithaca for the New York Regional, the Rams opened with a win over Neumann but dropped games to Ithaca and RPI to finish the year with a 29-15 record.

Offensively, Farmingdale State was led by senior left fielder David Zilnicki (Riverhead, N.Y.) who batted .434 this season. Zilnicki had team-high's in hits, runs scored, stolen bases and on base percentage. He ranked second in Division III in on-base percentage, third in stolen bases per game and fourth in total stolen bases. Senior first baseman Ron Remi (Massapequa, N.Y.) batted .319 with 25 RBI's, while freshman designated hitter Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) held a .316 average and had a team-high 17 extra-base hits. Sophomore shortstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) had a team-leading 146 at-bats with 30 RBI's 20 stolen bases. Senior right fielder Terrence Bohonan (Patchogue, N.Y.) held an outstanding .976 fielding percentage, committing only two errors this season. Sophomore second baseman Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.), who suffered a season-ending knee injury, was batting .395 in 23 starts. Junior infielder Daniel Paccione (Commack, N.Y.) led the Rams with three home runs.

Junior pitcher Michael Dolce (St. James, N.Y.) was 6-1 on the year with a 0.75 earned run average. He allowed five earned runs in 59.2 innings pitched and currently leads the nation in earned run average. Freshman pitcher Alex Weingarten (East Rockaway, N.Y.) was 3-2 and had four saves this year, while posing a 2.47 ERA. Junior James Powers (Jamesport, N.Y.) was 5-2 with a 2.21 ERA and senior Anthony Eilers (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was 4-3 on the year. Freshman reliever Cameron Kitt (Commack, N.Y.) posted a 4-1 record with a 2.16 ERA.

Zilnicki, Dolce, Remi, senior catcher Eric Wiener (Deer Park, N.Y.) and sophomore utility Mike Scarlato (Holbrook, N.Y.) were each named First Team All-Skyline, while Rydzewski and Paccione earned Second Team honors.

The Rams graduated five seniors this year.
