Rams Shutout Maritime in Playoff Opener

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Top-seeded Farmingdale State earned a 5-0 victory over Maritime this afternoon in their first game of the Skyline Conference Playoffs. The Rams will face the winner of #2 Old Westbury/#3 Purchase.

In the bottom of the third, the Rams (26-11) took a 1-0 lead on an RBI triple by senior left fielder David Zilnicki (Riverhead, N.Y.), which scored Eric Wiener (Deer Park, N.Y.).

Freshman designated hitter Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) led off the fourth with a single through the right side and a pair of stolen bases moved him to third with one out. Senior first baseman Ron Remi (Massapequa, N.Y.) converted a suicide squeeze to increase Farmingdale State's lead to 2-0.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, a 2 RBI single to left field by sophomore shortstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) gave the Rams a 4-0 advantage.

Farmingdale State scored their final run of the game as Remi stole home in the eighth inning.

Senior pitcher Anthony Eilers (Bay Shore, N.Y.) improved to 4-2 on the year after throwing six scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out two.

Zilnicki was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while Alvino was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI.

The Rams will play the Old Westbury/Purchase winner tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m.
