Six Rams Earn 2012 ABCA/Rawlings Awards

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team had five players named to the 2012 ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team this season. Senior pitcher Chris Phelan (Patchogue, N.Y.) earned First Team honors, while senior catcher Frank Scarlato (Holbrook, N.Y.), junior first baseman Ron Remi (Massapequa, N.Y.), freshman second baseman Thomas Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and senior pitcher C.J. Bula (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) were named Third Team All-Stars. Senior third baseman Ryan McAllister (Miller Place, N.Y.) earned the 2012 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award.

Phelan posted a career-best 9-1 record this year and also set career-high's in strikeouts (79), runs allowed (24), earned runs allowed (17), walks (11) and opponents batting average (.213). Phelan finished the season with a Skyline Conference leading 2.01 earned run average.

Scarlato batted a career-best .372 this season with team-high's in doubles (10) and runs batted in (33). Scarlato set career marks in hits (45), doubles, RBI's, slugging percentage (.496), on-base percentage (.424), stolen bases (6), at-bats (121) and games played (39).

Remi, who appeared in 42 games this season, batted a career-high .345 in 145 at-bats. Remi set career-high's in hits (50-2nd on team), doubles (7-2nd on team), RBI's (27-2nd on team), runs (26), slugging percentage (.441), on-base percentage (.396), stolen bases (6) and fielding percentage (.991-1st on team)

Rydzewski held a team-high .394 batting average in his rookie season at Farmingdale State. He led the Rams in hits (54), runs scored (36) and on-base percentage (.447).

Bula appeared in 15 games while starting eight and posted an 8-3 record with a 4.35 earned run average. He struck out 56 batters over 62 innings of work and held opponents to a .240 batting average.

McAllister anchored a strong defensive infield this season for the Rams. He started 36 games and committed a career-low six errors while posting a .933 fielding percentage. McAllister tallied 60 assists and 23 putouts in his final season at Farmingdale State.
