2012 Baseball Season Recap


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The baseball team captured their fifth consecutive Skyline Conference Championship after winning all three games and advanced to the NCAA New York Regional Tournament held at Farmingdale State College. The Rams entered the championship game with one loss and fell, 2-1, to top-seeded Cortland State.

Senior catcher Frank Scarlato (Holbrook, N.Y.) batted .372 and had a team-high 10 doubles and 33 runs batted in this season. Freshman second baseman Thomas Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) led the Rams in batting average (.394), on base percentage (.447), runs scored (36) and hits (54), while junior first baseman Ron Remi (Massapequa, N.Y.) batted .345 with 26 runs scored and 27 RBI. Junior left fielder David Zilnicki (Riverhead, N.Y.) led the conference and the nation with nine triples this year.

Freshman shortstop Anthony Alvino (.341) (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), senior third baseman Ryan McAllister (.339) (Miller Place, N.Y.) and junior right fielder Terrence Bohonan (Patchogue, N.Y.) (.313) each led a balanced offense for the Rams.

Senior pitcher Chris Phelan (9-1) (Patchogue, N.Y.) led the team in wins, earned run average (2.01) and strikeouts (79). Senior CJ Bula (8-3) (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) held a 4.35 earned run average and had 56 strikeouts on the season.

Phelan was named the Skyline Conference Pitcher of the Year and Rydzewski was named Co-Rookie of the Year. Bula, Scarlato and Alvino each earned First Team All-Skyline honors, while Rydzewski and Bohonan were named to the Second Team. Freshman designated hitter Ryan Levine (West Babylon, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Conference Tournament's Most Valuable Player.

The Rams will be graduating five seniors this season.
