Rams Advance to Finals for Fifth Straight Season

#1 Farmingdale State - 17, #2 Old Westbury - 6


Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Farmingdale State baseball team advanced to the Skyline Championship game for the fifth straight season today by defeating #2 Old Westbury 17-6 in the semifinals. The Rams improved to 27-9 overall with the win and will play on Sunday, April 29 at 11:00 a.m.

Farmingdale opened the scoring with a run in the first and added two runs in the second to hold a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, the Panthers got two runs back after a balk and a wild pitch, before senior pitcher C.J. Bula (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) came in for relief and would go 5.2 innings for his seventh win of the year (7-2).

The Rams added four more in the third, highlighted by an inside the park homerun by junior left fielder David Zilnicki (Riverhead, N.Y.). Farmingdale gathered 11 more hits the rest of the way, as they finished with 18 in the game.

Junior first baseman Ron Remi (Massapequa, N.Y.) was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored, three RBI's and a walk. Zilnicki finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI's. Freshman designated hitter Ryan Levine (West Babylon, N.Y.) was 3-for-5 with an RBI, junior right fielder Terrence Bohonan (Patchogue, N.Y.) had two hits, two RBI's and a run scored, while freshman second baseman Thomas Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.

For Old Westbury, sophomore right fielder John Angelino (Shirley, N.Y.), junior first baseman Brian Walsh (Bellmore, N.Y.), senior designated hitter Christopher DeGennaro (Manorville, N.Y.) and senior third baseman Blake Barbeito (Astoria, N.Y.) all posted two hits.
