Rams Shutout Knights in Semifinals

#1 Farmingdale State - 9, #4 Mount Saint Mary - 0


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team shutout Mount Saint Mary, 9-0, in their first game on the Skyline playoffs today. The Rams will now face the winner of #3 St. Josephs/#2 Old Westbury tomorrow at 10:00 a.m., while the Knights will face the loser of that game at 1:00 p.m.

In the bottom of the second, Farmingdale scored the first run as freshman second baseman Thomas Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch, scoring senior third baseman Ryan McAllister (Miller Place, N.Y.). The Rams increased their lead to 2-0 on a sac fly to right by freshman shortstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.).

In the third, freshman designated hitter Ryan Levine (West Babylon, N.Y.) doubled down the right field line to put a runner on. Junior first baseman Ron Remi (Massapequa, N.Y.) reached on an error and moved Levine over to third. Levine scored on a double steal to make it 3-0. Farmingdale State scored one more in the fourth on a two-out RBI single up the middle by junior right fielder Terrence Bohonan (Patchogue, N.Y.).

The Rams added four runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth to cap off the 9-0 victory.

Senior Chris Phelan (Patchogue, N.Y.) improved to 7-1 overall after throwing 6.2 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out 10. Bohonan was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and junior left fielder David Zilnicki (Riverhead, N.Y.) had two hits, two runs scored and one RBI. Alvino was 1-for-2 at the plate with a run scored and two RBI, while senior catcher Frank Scarlato (Holbrook, N.Y.) had two hits in five at-bats.
