Rams Post 15 Inning Game in Doubleheader Sweep of Purchase

Game 1: Farmingdale State - 6, Purchase College - 5 (15 innings)

Game 2: Farmingdale State - 7, Purchase College - 0 (5 innings)

Purchase, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team went 15 innings in the opener against Purchase College, taking a 6-5 opening game victory over the Panthers. The Rams then won a rain-shortened game two, 7-0, which was called after five full innings. Purchase is now 10-15 overall and 3-5 in conference play, while Farmingdale improved to 16-9 and 9-1 in the Skyline.

Backed by a four-run sixth inning, the Panthers led game one 5-1 and would hold the lead until the eighth inning. The Panthers faced former pitcher C.J. Bula (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.), who relieved junior Anthony Eilers (Bay Shore, N.Y.) in the seventh inning. Bula would settle in and toss nine innings of relief, helping the Rams get back into the game from the seventh on as he struck out six and allowed just five hits.

Farmingdale State held off a Panther rally that appeared to end the opener in the 14th. But in the top of the 15th, freshman second baseman Thomas Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) reached on an error and would reach second on the error. Senior third baseman Ryan McAllister (Miller Place, N.Y.) moved Rydzewski over to third on a sacrifice bunt, while freshman shortstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) followed with the game-winning RBI on a sac fly to centerfield.

Rydzewski went 5-for-7 in game one for Farmingdale State. Senior first baseman Ron Remi (Massapequa, N.Y.) was 4-for-6 with one RBI and a run scored.

The Panthers outhit Farmingdale in game two, but the Rams took advantage of the shortened finale, scoring two in the second, two in third and three more in the fourth. Offensively, Farmingdale State junior catcher Eric Wiener (Deer Park, N.Y.) led the way in game two. The catcher had two hits and an RBI.

Farmingdale State will travel to face Briarcliffe College at the PAL Complex in Holbrook, N.Y. in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
