Phelan, Bohonan and Curtis Named All Region; Bohonan and Butler Win Gold Gloves

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team had three players named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team and two receive the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award. Junior pitcher Chris Phelan (Patchogue, N.Y.) was named First Team All-Region, while sophomore right fielder Terrence Bohonan (Patchogue, N.Y.) and senior first baseman Kevin Curtis (Riverhead, N.Y.) received Third Team honors. Bohonan and senior catcher Thomas Butler (Islip, N.Y.) were Gold Glove recipients.

Phelan led the Rams with a 7-3 record and an impressive 1.93 earned run average in 11 starts this season. He pitched a team-high 84 innings and set a school record with 78 strikeouts in a season. Phelan led the Skyline Conference in ERA, strikeouts, wins and innings pitched. He was named Second Team All-Conference and now holds Farmingdale State career records for wins (18) and strikeouts (183).

Bohonan batted .342 in 42 games played this year. He led the team with 50 hits and 32 runs batted in and was second with 24 runs scored. Bohonan held a .408 on base percentage and was a First Team All-Skyline Conference selection. He earned his first ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award after committing only one error this season and holding a .989 fielding percentage from his outfield position. In 73 games played at Farmingdale State, Terrence has committed only two errors. 

Curtis, a First-Team All-Conference selection and the Skyline Tournament MVP, held a team-high .361 batting average this season. Curtis had 44 hits, 27 RBI, 23 runs scored and a team-leading 60 total bases. He held a .492 slugging percentage and a .426 on base percentage. Curtis leaves Farmingdale State as the all-time leader in hits (161), runs batted in (115), total bases (120) and games played (145). He was also named the Farmingdale State College Male Co-Athlete of the Year.

Butler earned the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award in his only season as a member of the Rams. He started 22 games behind the plate and threw out 13 runners attempting to steal, which is a Farmingdale single season record. Butler held a .983 fielding percentage from his catching position.
