Rams Split in Regular Season Finale

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team split in a non-conference doubleheader against Manhattanville College this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams earned a 10-1 victory in game one, before falling 7-2 in the second game. Farmingdale State (19-12) closed out their regular season today, as they prepare for the Skyline Conference playoffs which begin on Friday.
In game one, the Valiants (15-18) struck first scoring a run in the top of the first. Sophomore outfielder Terrence Bohonan (Patchogue, N.Y.) reached with a two out single to right, before he scored on a Brandon Cruz (Bronx, N.Y.) single, which tied the game at 1-1. Sophomore Tony Peveraro (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) led off the bottom of the second with an infield single and advanced to second on a Danny DeVito (Plainview, N.Y.) sacrifice bunt. In Farmingdale's next at bat, senior centerfielder Frank Yera (Manhattan, N.Y.) tripled, scoring Peveraro and giving the Rams a 2-1 lead. Sophomore third baseman David Zilnicki (Riverhead, N.Y.) later recorded an RBI groundout as the Rams went ahead 3-1.
Leading 4-1 entering the fifth inning, the Rams scored six runs to extend the lead to 10-1 and seal the non-conference victory.
Cruz was 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI, while Peveraro was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Bohonan had two hits, 2 RBI and a run scored and senior outfielder Ryan Rubenstein (Deer Park, N.Y.) also had two hits an a run batted in.
In the second game, the Rams fell behind 1-0 after the first inning and allowed three more runs in the top of the fourth. Trailing 6-0 entering the bottom of the fifth, Farmingdale State was only able to plate two runs and eventually fell 7-2.
Junior third baseman Ryan Theiss (Deer Park, N.Y.) recorded two of Farmingdale State's three hits in the game as he was 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBI. Junior infielder Ryan McAllister (Miller Place, N.Y.) was 1-for-2 with a walk for the Rams.
Farmingdale State enters the Skyline playoffs as the No. 2 seed and have earned a first round bye. The Rams will face the winner of #3 Mount Saint Vincent vs. #6 Purchase on Friday, April 29th at 6:30 p.m.
