Rams Fall to Oneonta in Extra-Innings

Oneonta State - 6, Farmingdale State - 5

Farmingdale, N.Y. - An unearned run in the top of the tenth inning would cost Farmingdale State a 6-5 loss to Oneonta State in today's non-conference baseball game in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams fall to 10-9 with the loss, while the Red Dragons improved to 5-6.

Farmingdale took a 2-0 lead in the second thanks to a two-RBI single up the middle from sophomore catcher Jordin Rodriguez (New York, N.Y.), scoring senior left fielder Ryan Rubenstein (Deer Park, N.Y.) and sophomore designated hitter Tony Peveraro (New Hyde Park, N.Y.). Oneonta grabbed the lead in third with three runs scored on four hits and one error for a 3-2 score.

The Rams struck back in the fifth with three runs. An RBI single from sophomore right fielder Terrence Bohonan (Patchogue, N.Y.) to tie the game at 3-3, followed by an RBI from senior first baseman Mike Appell (Westbury, N.Y.) to give Farmingdale a 4-3 lead. Bohonan scored on an Oneonta error for a 5-3 lead.

In the sixth, two Rams errors would allow the Red Dragons to score a run and make it 5-4, while another error in the seventh would allow Oneonta to tie the game at 5-5. Farmingdale State left five men on base in the final three innings, sending the game into extras.

The Red Dragons' sophomore third baseman Michael DeCarr (Syracuse, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to center field in the tenth for the 6-5 lead and eventual win.

Rubenstein finished with three hits for the Rams, while Bohonan and sophomore third baseman David Zilnicki (Riverhead, N.Y.) each had two hits.

Junior left hander Joshua Herzenberg (White Plains, N.Y.) got the win pitching five innings, allowing six hits and striking out two. Junior right hander Chris Phelan (Patchogue, N.Y.) picked up the loss, after pitching the final three innings without allowing an earned run and striking out three.
