Rams Fall to 9th Ranked Kean University

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State fell to 9th ranked Kean University today, 3-0, in a non-conference baseball game in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams fall to 11-10 overall with the loss, while the Cougars improve to 14-4.

Kean got one run in the third with a single to right field by junior infielder Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J./Hamilton East), scoring freshman infielder D.J. Breckenridge (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) for a 1-0 lead.

Freshman right hander Chris Phelan (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) relieved sophomore left hander Gary Troy (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) in the fourth inning and went five innings, while allowing only one run.

The Rams best scoring opportunity came in the eighth, starting with junior catcher Zak Nersesian's (Nyack, N.Y./Nyack) single through the right side. Senior shortstop Brian Benvenuto (Dix Hills, N.Y./Hills West) followed with a triple, but a play at the plate stopped the Farmingdale run from scoring. The Rams grounded out to end the inning, stranding a runner on third base and trailing 2-0.

Kean added another run in the top of the ninth and shut down the Rams 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth for the win.

Freshman pitcher Sam Fourre (Scotch Plains, N.J./St. Joseph's) pitched his first complete game shutout win, throwing 129 pitches, while allowing just five hits and striking out five to improve to 2-0 this season.

Troy suffers his first loss of the season, despite allowing only one run in his three innings pitched.

Farmingdale will now host former conference opponent Manhattanville College on Thursday, March 26th in a doubleheader at 4:00 p.m.
