Solid Pitching Leads Rams Past Oneonta

Farmingdale State - 6, Oneonta State - 2

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team defeated Oneonta State, 6-2, this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams used seven pitchers in the game and did not allow an earned run. Farmingdale State improved to 13-12 on the season.

Oneonta State (12-5) designated hitter William Rivas (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) reached base on an error with two outs in the top of the third inning. Senior centerfielder Carmine Caputo (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) tripled scoring Rivas and sophomore second baseman Kevin Knack (Ghent, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) singled to score Caputo, putting the Red Dragons ahead 2-0. Junior shortstop Brandon Cruz (Bronx, N.Y./Mount St. Michael) led off the bottom of the third with a solo homerun to left center to cut the deficit in half.

In the next inning, Farmingdale freshman rightfielder Terrence Bohonan (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) tied the game at 2-2 with a double to left field, scoring junior leftfielder Matt Weingartner (Westbury, N.Y./W.T. Clarke) who reached base on a fielder's choice. The Rams took the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Bohonan.

Sophomore second baseman Ryan McAllister (Miller Place, N.Y./Rocky Point) led off the bottom of seventh with a walk, before senior catcher Zak Nersesian (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Nyack) doubled to left center, scoring McAllister. The Rams added two runs in the eighth inning and went on for a 6-2 non-conference win over Oneonta State.

Cruz was 2-for-3 with a homerun and McAllister was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Senior centerfielder Frank Yera (Manhattan, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) was also 2-for-3 at the plate for the Rams.

Oneonta was led by Caputo and Knack who each had a run batted in.

Senior pitcher Steve King (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) earned the win for Farmingdale after pitching a scoreless inning of relief. Sophomore pitcher Corey Andersen (Deposit/Deposit) took the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings of work.

The Rams will host Skyline Conference opponent St. Joseph's College in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 10th at noon.
