Rams Win Third Straight over SUNY IT

Farmingdale, NY - Farmingdale State defeated SUNY IT (5-4) today, 11-10, to improve to 4-8 on the season. Senior pitcher Jeremy Small (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) picked up his first win of the season, throwing one and two-thirds shutout innings on one hit and two strikeouts.

Junior third baseman John Basquez (Sunnyside, NY/Cordoza) led the Rams, going 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, two runs batted in and two stolen bases. Junior second baseman Ryan Pembroke (Wading River, NY/Shoreham Wading River) singled to left field in the sixth inning to give the Rams the run they needed to hold on. Pembroke finished the day 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, a run scored and a stolen base. Junior outfielder Nick Barone (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) added two hits, two runs scored and two runs batted in, including a double down the left field line to score sophomore outfielder Rich Santoro (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) in the sixth. Santoro went 2-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored.

The Wildcats were led by sophomore outfielder Michael Lewis (Clinton, NY) as he went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three runs batted in. Junior third baseman Matthew Leahy (Rochester, NY) and junior shortstop Manny Santiago (Newburgh, NY) both added three hits for SUNY IT.

Farmingdale got some relief from junior catcher Bryan Ciminelli (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) as he threw out two-of-two Wildcat runners stealing. Sophomore pitcher Josh Deitch (Melville, NY/Hills East) got the save for the Rams leaving two SUNY IT runners on base after a hit and an error.

Farmingdale hosts the first game of a two-game series against Dowling on Tuesday at 3:00 pm in Farmingdale, NY. The Rams then travel to Dowling on Wednesday for a 3:30 pm game.
