2013-14 Farmingdale State Senior Awards Brunch

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The 2013-14 Farmingdale State College Senior Awards Brunch was held in the Campus Center on Friday, May 2nd, 2014. This year we held a brunch to honor our seniors and special award winners with 50 student-athletes in attendance, along with the administration of Farmingdale State Athletics, who were excited to recap all of the team and individual accomplishments throughout the year.

The featured awards this year were the SUNY Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Awards, the Academic Achievement Award (for highest team GPA), the All-Farmingdale State Team (Top-10 athletes) and each senior was given a large action shot as a memoir of their time at FSC.

 

CHANCELLOR'S SCHOLAR-ATHLETES

The Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award was created to recognize outstanding academic excellence and outstanding athletic achievement. Recipients were selected after a thorough review of their credentials and accomplishments by athletic directors from across the State University System.

Four Farmingdale State athletes received the prestigious 2014 Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award from the State University of New York.

This years winners were: Michael Dolce (Baseball - 3.74 GPA), Camille Romero (Women's Basketball - 3.73 GPA), Christy Thoden  (Women's Lacrosse - 3.39 GPA).

Dolce, a senior pitcher from St. James, N.Y., holds a 3.74 GPA in the Criminal Justice major, making the President’s List 3 times and Dean’s list 4 times. Last season, he was named Academic All-District, First Team All-Skyline and First Team All-Region. He led the Nation in 2013 with a 0.75 ERA.

Romero, a junior guard from Queens, N.Y., holds a 3.73 GPA in the Sport Management program, named to the President’s list twice and Dean’s list once. This season, she was the Skyline Player of the Year and Second Team All-Region. She also ranked 29th in the Nation for points per game.

Thoden, a junior midfielder from Bayport, N.Y., holds a 3.39 GPA in the Medical Technology program. She has made the Dean’s list 3-of-her-5 semesters. Last season, she was First Team All-Skyline, Second Team All-Region and ECAC All-Star. This season she was named the Skyline Player of the Year.

 

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Each year at Farmingdale State, one team earns the Academic Achievement Award for the highest overall cumulative grade point average. This year, we had 6 teams finish with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, with the award given to the women's track team with a 3.22 GPA.

Other teams finishing over 3.0 were: Softball (3.20), Women’s Tennis (3.17), Women’s Cross Country (3.17), Men’s Track (3.06) and Baseball (3.04).

 

ALL-FARMINGDALE STATE TEAM

CAMILLE ROMERO

A junior on the women's basketball team who led the team and ranked 3rd in the Skyline Conference in scoring with 19.8 points per game. She was named the Skyline Player of the Year and also 2nd Team All-Region. Nationally, she finished 29th in all of Division III for points per game. She currently ranks #1 All-Time at Farmingdale State for Free-throw percentage and #2 in scoring.

EDWARD BERGMANN

A senior on the baseball team who is batting a team and conference-high .458 this year. He leads the Skyline in runs scored and on-base percentage and leads the Rams in hits, doubles, slugging percentage, stolen bases and holds a perfect fielding percentage. He is ranked 6th in the nation for stolen bases per game, 11th in batting average, 16th for stolen bases and 22nd in on-base percentage. This season he currently has the highest single-season batting average in school history.

NICOLE MARZOCCA

A junior on the women’s lacrosse team, who was named First Team All-Skyline and was named the Skyline Tournament MVP after leading the Rams to the first Skyline Championship since 2009. She most recently broke the single-season school record for points in a season as she holds 104 points to date, which includes 57 goals and 47 assists. She is nationally ranked #5 for Points and #11 for Assists.

ANGELO VITERITTI

A senior on the men’s soccer team, leading the Rams to the Skyline Finals. He was named First Team All-Skyline, the Skyline Conference Defensive Player of the Year and Second Team All-ECAC. His 112 saves this season ranks 2nd All-Time. He will leave FSC ranked 1st in save percentage and goals against average and 2nd in Wins and Saves per game. In Division III, he ranked 40th for saves and 41st for save percentage.

ASHLEE THOMPSON

A sophomore on the women’s soccer team who was named First Team All-Conference, Second Team All-ECAC and Third Team All- Region. She led the Rams in goals, assists, points, game-winning scores and penalty kick goals. Her 35 points and 5 game-winning goals in 2013 were both single-season school records. She is ranked 2nd all-time at Farmingdale State in points per game and goals per game.

CHRISTY THODEN

A junior on the women’s lacrosse team who was named the 2014 Skyline Conference Player of the Year and helped the Rams to the Skyline Championship. For the third season in a row, she broke school records for draw controls, caused turnovers and ground balls. She is 2nd on the team in scoring and is nationally ranked #6 for Draw controls, 21st for caused turnovers and 26th for Assists. She holds 7 all-time records to date in just 3 seasons.

ADAM LARKIN

A senior on the men's golf team, who led the team to their sixth straight conference title and was named the Skyline Player of the Year for the third time, after shooting rounds of 71 and 72 to win the Skyline Championship. He posted a 3-shot win at the season-opening Tim Brown Invitational and won all three conference invitational’s. In 14 events played, he posted six wins and 11 Top-5’s. He will leave Farmingdale State as the top golfer in school history.

JESSICA SICKLES

A junior on the women’s tennis team, holding the #1 singles and doubles spots, and leading the Rams to a first-ever Skyline Conference Championship. She was named First Team All-Conference after posting 11 wins in doubles and 8 wins in singles matches. Her team also won a school record 12-games in a row this season.

DONOVAN DEVANEY

A junior on the men’s lacrosse team, who ranked 2nd in the Conference for face-off percentage. He set the single-season school record for faceoff winning percentage at 66%, while also leading the team in ground balls and scoring 8 goals from his midfield position. He currently holds the school record for career faceoff percentage and is #2 for ground balls. Nationally, he ranks 19th for faceoff percentage and 40th for ground balls.

MEAGAN ANDERSON

A sophomore on the softball team who was named First Team All-Conference. She led both the team and Conference for batting average (with a .508), hits, runs, on-base percentage, total bases and a school record 18 doubles. She holds a career average of .448, which is the highest in school history. In Division III, she ranks 6th for doubles, 16th for runs and 35th for batting average.
