Skyline Spring Reporting Week #5 Released


New York, N.Y. - The Skyline Conference released the spring report for the 2011-12 season on Monday, April 2, including Player of the Week, Rookie of the Week, Honor Roll and Conference statistics for baseball, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, softball, and men's tennis.

Women's Lacrosse Update - Full Report

The Rams won two conference games this week, over Maritime and Mount Saint Mary, to remain undefeated in the Skyline (3-0) and 7-1 overall.

Senior attack Krystin Shand (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Co-Player of the Week, while freshman midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Co-Rookie of the Week.

Shand posted a career-high 7 assists and 9 points in the win over Maritime. Then followed that performance with a career-high 11 points (7 assists, 4 goals) in the win over Mount Saint Mary. She is now 18 assists away from tying the school season record (48 assists).

Thoden posted career-highs of 6 goals, 5 assists and 11 points in the win over Maritime on Wednesday. She was all over the field on Saturday vs. Mount Saint Mary, finishing with 2 goals, 4 GB's, 3 caused turnovers and 9 Draw Controls on Saturday. Her season total of 64 draw controls is now just 14 shy of tying the school record for Draw Controls in a season (78).

Men's Tennis Update - Full Report

The Rams went 1-1 last week, defeating John Jay easily 8-1 before falling to NYU-Poly in their Skyline opener, 5-4. This week, Farmingdale hosts Mount Saint Mary on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and Merchant Marine on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Freshman Justin Vijungco (Forest Hills, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week after finishing 3-1 for the week. Vijungco went 1-1 against John Jay, before winning both his matches in the loss to Poly. Versus Poly, he defeated his freshman opponent at #1 singles, while also teaming up with sophomore Christian Bormann at #1 doubles, defeating their upperclassmen opponents.

Baseball Update - Full Report

The baseball team fished the week with a 4-3 record, including 3-1 in conference games. The Rams split with Old Westbury and swept Purchase. In the Purchase doubleheader, the Rams won 6-5 in the 15th inning, marking the longest game played since joining Division III back in 2000.

Farmingdale State is now tied for 1st place in the conference with St. Joseph's, holding a 9-1 Skyline record. The Rams will host the playoffs once again this season on April 27-29.

Senior catcher Frank Scarlato (Holbrook, N.Y.) was named Skyline Co-Player of the Week, after hitting .421 in his 5 games played, with a team-leading six RBI's with two runs scored. He hit his first career homerun at Stevens this week, finished the week with a team-high .632 slugging percentage. Recording a hit in all 5 games, he increased his hit streak to 7 games.

Senior pitcher Chris Phelan (Patchogue, N.Y.) was named to the Skyline Honor Roll. Phelan pitched a complete game in a 6-3 win over Old Westbury in game 1 of the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. He improved to 3-1 with the win, striking out 7 batters and walking just 2. He allowed just six hits in the win, none for extra-bases.

Softball Update - Full Report

The softball team only played in one game this week, a doubleheader with NYU-Poly on Sunday afternoon, which they split with a 5-2 victory and 8-3 loss. The Rams are currently in a 3-way tie for 1st place in the Skyline, but have four doubleheaders remaining to play before the Playoffs start on April 27.

Sophomore shortstop Hillary Genova (Brentwood, N.Y.) was named to the Player of the Week Honor Roll, as she led the team with an on-base percentage of .714 and a slugging percentage of .800. In game one, she went 1-for-2 with a walk and knocked in the eventual game-winning run's with a 2 RBI single in the 5th inning. In game 2, she finished 2-for-3 with a run scored, double and a walk.

Men's Lacrosse Update - Full Report

The men's lacrosse team fell 10-6 at Kean on Wednesday night and then rebounded with a 17-3 win at Mount Saint Mary on Saturday afternoon. The Rams are currently in 5th place with three conference games remaining before the 4-team Skyline Playoffs, which begin on April 25.

Senior midfielder Jason Opitz (West Hempstead, N.Y.) was named to the Player of the Week Honor Roll, after posting career-highs of 6 points and 5 goals in the win over Mount Saint Mary.
