FSC Spring Athletics Update #6

NEW YORK | The Skyline Conference released its weekly spring reports Tuesday morning, and five student-athletes from Farmingdale State College collected weekly awards, while eight others were cited on weekly honor rolls.

Baseball (9-9, 2-3 Skyline) | Skyline Report

The Rams went 4-2 last week, earning a doubleheader sweep Wednesday against Lehman before splitting road Skyline twinbills at St. Joseph's-Long Island Friday, and Manhattanville Sunday.

Senior righty Johnny Dougherty (Kings Park, N.Y.) was named the Skyline's Pitcher of the Week, while freshman Ryan Wasserman (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) collected Rookie of the Week praise. Dougherty fired a complete-game four-hitter with 11 strikeouts in Friday's opener against the Golden Eagles, while Wasserman (12-of-24, 7 R, 4 SB) collected six two-hit games in as many outings on the week to extend his hitting streak to 12-consecutive contests.

Junior first baseman Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) was named to the weekly honor roll after hitting .542 with six runs scored and three doubles, as was senior outfielder Bobby Pollock (Manorville, N.Y.), who hit for the second cycle in FSC history in Sunday's nightcap at Manhattanville (previous: Nick Barone, vs. Staten Island - May 5, 2005).

Head coach Keith Osik's team is back in action Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. against John Jay at Maimonides Park in Brooklyn.

Women's Lacrosse (3-5, 1-0 Skyline) | Skyline Report

The Rams split their two contests last week, falling on the road in non-conference play Tuesday at Drew University before routing St. Joseph's-Long Island on Saturday in its Skyline Conference opener.

Senior netminder Ronnie Reilly (Oceanside, N.Y.) collected the Skyline's Defensive Player of the Week award after a 29-save week, including 15 stops in the 19-5 victory against the Golden Eagles on Saturday.

Head coach Erin Calkins will lead her team into Skyline play Tuesday night at defending champion United States Merchant Marine Academy, before a 2022 semifinals rematch Friday night at Maritime; both contests begin at 7 p.m.

Men's Tennis (4-2, 2-0 Skyline) | Skyline Report

FSC moved to 2-0 in Skyline play with a dominant 9-0 decision Tuesday night versus Sarah Lawrence College.

Freshman Ryan Hendel (No. Merrick, N.Y.) was named the Skyline's Rookie of the Week after earning an 8-0 sweep over the Gryphons at No. 1 doubles (with senior Baldwin native, Mark Baker), while junior Alan Sabovic (Bohemia, N.Y.) earned a weekly honor roll nod after sweeping at No. 2 singles and doubles against SLC.

Head coach Adam Waterhouse's side has road Skyline contests against Mount Saint Mary and Manhattanville on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons, respectively, which sandwich Thursday's home non-conference date with Western Connecticut State (4:30 p.m. first serve).

Outdoor Track and Field | Men's Skyline Report | Women's Skyline Report

Farmingdale State competed at The Big Hurt meet hosted by St. John's University on Saturday, as well as at Sunday's Coach Omeltchenko Invitational hosted by USMMA on Sunday.

On the men's side, senior Joseph Stocken VI (Miller Place, N.Y.) was selected as the Skyline's Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 400-meter hurdles the previous week at the Stockton Invitational, and repeating Saturday at The Big Hurt (55.36 -- No. 6 all-time at FSC). Freshman Daniel Bamfo (Lake Grove, N.Y.) earned an honor-roll citation following his winning 13.30m (43-7.75) leap in the triple jump at St. John's.

A trio of women's student-athletes -- Alexxis McNeil (Valley Stream, N.Y.), senior Emily Russell (Southold, N.Y.) and freshman Christania Fede (Westbury, N.Y.) -- all garnered honor-roll accolades. McNeil now ranks Nos. 7 and 8, respectively, in program history in the 100-meter (12.88) and 200-meter (26.38) dashes, while Russell's 1.55m high jump ranks fourth on the FSC ledger. Fede's 7.55m toss in the shot put set a personal record.

Head coach Daniela Georgieva's teams are next in action Friday and Saturday at Stockton's Osprey Open, leading into the April 23 Skyline Conference Championship at USMMA.

Softball (4-7) | Skyline Report

The Rams returned to the diamond for the first time in 11 days on Wednesday, sweeping a non-conference doubleheader against New Paltz (5-3, and 9-7).

Senior first baseman Brooke Walker (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) was named to the weekly honor roll following a 4-for-6 effort against the Hawks, slugging 1.167 and finishing a homer shy of the cycle in the nightcap.

Head coach Liz Pennino's nine open Skyline Conference play Saturday at noon, when they play St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in a twinbill at LIU Post in Brookville, N.Y.

Men's Lacrosse (8-1) 

Head coach Sean Chamberlain's team returns to the field Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Keystone (Pa.), before opening Skyline action Saturday at 1 p.m. against USMMA in the Legends Cup game. If Farmingdale State wins Tuesday's game against the Giants, it would tie a program record with nine-consecutive victories (last time: spread over the 2020 and 2021 seasons).
