FSC Spring Athletics Update #5

NEW YORK | The Skyline Conference released its latest spring weekly reports on Tuesday morning, with one student-athlete from Farmingdale State College collecting a weekly award, while four others were cited on the weekly honor roll in their respective sports.

Men's Tennis (3-2, 1-0 Skyline) | Skyline Report

The Rams dropped their spring opener Tuesday night to Baruch, before collecting identical 7-2 victories Friday at Brooklyn College, and Sunday versus visiting Yeshiva in their Skyline Conference opener.

Junior Alan Sabovic (Bohemia, N.Y.) earned Player of the Week recognition from the Skyline after going 3-0 in No. 2 singles action, while freshman Ryan Hendel (No. Merrick, N.Y.) garnered honor roll kudos after going 2-1 at both No. 1 doubles and No. 3 singles.

Farmingdale State has three matches this week, with head coach Adam Waterhouse's squad playing host to Sarah Lawrence Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., before weekend competitions at Purchase (Sat., 11 a.m.) and Oneonta (Sun., 1 p.m.).

Baseball (6-7, 1-1 Skyline) | Skyline Report

The Rams had a 2-1 week at home, including a 22-0 victory over John Jay on Thursday afternoon and a Skyline-opening doubleheader split Sunday versus Mount Saint Vincent.

Senior right fielder Bobby Pollock (Manorville, N.Y.) collected honor-roll praise from the conference after hitting a school-record three home runs on Thursday against the Bloodhounds.

A trio of doubleheaders dot this week's slate for head coach Keith Osik's side, including a non-conference home twinbill Wednesday at 4 p.m. versus Lehman, before road Skyline doubleheaders Friday at St. Joseph's-Long Island (1 p.m.) and Sunday at Manhattanville (noon).

Golf

Farmingdale State kicked off spring competition Sunday at the McDaniel Spring Invite in Abbottstown, Pa., finishing seventh out of 17 teams with a plus-26 score of 314. Junior Mackenzie Kim (E. Quogue, N.Y.) finished in a ninth-place tie individually with his plus-4 round of 76.

Head coach Ryan Williams's Rams next return to the course April 10-11, when they travel to Florence, Ala., to compete in the Alabama Division III Showcase.

Men's Lacrosse (8-1) | Skyline Report

The Rams ran their winning streak to eight last week, taking down previously unbeaten Western Connecticut on Wednesday, 11-6, before defeating host Alvernia by a 16-2 count on Saturday.

Senior attacker Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and sophomore defender both earned honor-roll citations from the Skyline. Wandle moved to No. 2 on the school's all-time scoring list (179 pts.; 110 g, 69 a) following an eight-point week (4 g, 4 a), while Lembo swiped six turnovers and scooped nine ground balls for the Rams on the backline.

The Rams are off this week, before returning to action on the road next Tuesday (April 4) at Keystone (Pa.).

Women's Lacrosse (2-4) | Skyline Report

Farmingdale State fell to visiting Kean by a 9-7 count on Wednesday in its only contest of the week. Senior attacker Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.) reached a milestone with her goal at the end of the first period against the Cougars, collecting her 100th career point on the play.

Head coach Erin Calkins will lead the Rams to Drew University on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., before playing host to St. Joseph's-Long Island in their Skyline opener Saturday at noon.

Softball (2-7)

Head coach Liz Pennino's FSC side gets back into action for the first time in 11 days on Wednesday, when it plays host to a 4 p.m. doubleheader against SUNY New Paltz.

Outdoor Track & Field

The Rams opened outdoor competition Saturday at the Stockton Invitational in New Jersey.

Head coach Daniela Georgieva's squads return to action Saturday, when they travel to Queens to compete in The Big Hurt meet at St. John's University.
